Smatla Photo From Willard

Yes, that was Grandma, holding me, for sure. Born in San Francisco, Mom & Dad decided she should move back to KS in case the Japanese mounted an invasion (a real threat in '42)... thus I grew up in Willard, later North of Rossville. Went to Willard school with Neil McKenzie - Mrs. Carrigher was the teacher (the Optical service family, still in Topeka). Us kids used to watch Shorty McClain blacksmithing... nice guy.
