St. Patrick's Day Parade

Parent Resource Night March 9

Parent Resource night is open to any parent in the USD #321 area. If you have a teenager -- then this is the place for you to come get information on banking, voting, interviewing, salary negotiation, and more. Reading and math interventionists will be there too! March 9th 6:30 - 8:00 -- in a career fair style. Visit the agencies that pertain to you and your student!

Traffic Enforcement Drive

Beginning February 27 thru March 10, the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office will join other Kansas Law Enforcement to stop what has been an epidemic for the past several years, too many teen deaths on our roadways. In an effort to change this trend, law enforcement across Kansas will be extra-vigilant when patrolling around schools. There should be no surprises when it comes to this enforcement effort. Officers will issue citations to any individual who refuses to obey the traffic laws, whether it is for speeding, texting or failing to buckle up.

Stipp and Terliesner On All-State Honor Band

Ella Terliesner,  Mr. Jones, Ava Stipp

Ava and Ella during Band Rehearsal

For the first time in 22 years, Rossville has band members in the All-State Honor Band - Ava Stipp (Clarinet) and Ella Terliesner (Clarinet), a foreign exchange student from Germany.  Teresa Lacock (flute), a 1995 Rossville graduate, was the last person to make the honor band.  Students grades 10-12 must first perform a live audition for their District honor band, of which there are six districts in Kansas - Southeast, South Central, Southwest, Northwest, North Central, and Northeast.  After successfully making the district band, district band members are given the opportunity to perform a live audition for All-State selection in early January.  If they are selected to the All-State ensemble, students travel to Wichita during the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) convention in late February to rehearse with the other All-State members and perform a concert on the final day of the convention.

All-State students are divided into two bands.  One comprised of all 1A-4A classified schools, and another of 5A-6A schools, representing the "best of the best" high school musicians Kansas.  Ella & Ava both worked very hard for this honor, and played very well at the concert, which was Saturday, February 25th at the Century II Performing Arts Center in Wichita.  The Rossville Jr/Sr High School band and community are very proud of their accomplishments and dedication to excellence.  I look forward to having many more students achieve this great honor in the future.

Thank you
