Isaac Luellen of Rossville finally claimed a Kansas Kids folksytle title with a 7-1 victory over Salina’s Kyle True in the 160-pound finals of the 14-under division Saturday at Landon Arena.
About an hour before Isaac captured his crown, Isaiah won the 12-under 115-pound division with a dominating 9-0 victory over Hugoton’s Mitchell Hamlin.
That gave Isaiah three Kids State titles, compared to Isaac’s one. Isaiah won his first two Kids State crowns in the 6-under and 8-under divisions, also capturing a Tulsa Nationals crown during that span. He never won a 10-under crown, in large part because he took a couple years off from wrestling.
Isaac had finished just about everywhere in the top six during his Kids State career, except first. He and True were scoreless at the end of the first period, and after True got an early escape in the second, Isaac caught him in a five-point move to take control.
Isaac is a freshman at Rossville High and he qualified for state in his first year of scholastic competition, but not place.
Isaiah is a seventh grader and should have a promising career high school career beginning in two years. Read more about the brothers at:
