A new Willard Bridge is being planned to replace the structure built in 1955. At the same time, the Shawnee Co. Historical Society is attempting to use the bridge to make people more aware of the area's historical significance.
At one time, Uniontown, near present day Willard, was the largest settlement in Kansas and was the site of a limestone ford across the Kansas River, and was later the site of a ferry.

Silver Lake Wins Two in Softball
The Eagles stayed unbeaten at 16-0 with a sweep of the Rossville sofball team, winning the opener 1-0 and rallying from 3-0 to take the second 7-3.
Message From RHS Alumni Scholarship Foundation
The RHS Alumni became the RHS Alumni Scholarship Foundation three and a half years ago. The board would like to update everyone on the progress we have made.
The board has worked very hard to continue the endeavor of offering scholarships to our seniors. It has been a trying time due to economic conditions. The main money maker is the alumni dinner which falls the first Saturday in June. Also we have worked a few concession stands. To this date with your generous support and attendance at the dinner we have accumulated $20,000.00. We have also applied to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribe for a grant the last two years and have received $2,000.00. This money funds our scholarships plus the interest from the $20,000.00. This year we are able to give two $1,000.00 scholarships to two deserving students.
We would also like to ask for your support in becoming board members. We have all served our time plus much more by rotating the positions. We are hoping someone might step forward so we can keep this worthy cause of helping our senior students. As we all age we need younger members to help keep this Alumni Foundation an ongoing organization benefiting our seniors.
Since we are a foundation, all donations, memorial contributions and other gifts received have a tax donation status which is recognized by the foundation.
Please help us spread the word to any RHS graduate that you may know.
We are always looking for email addresses and mailing address if no email. Send to: frank.ruff@juno.com.
Thank you.
Rossville High School Alumni Board Members: Helen Lytle, President; Billee Dolezilek; Clyde Strimple, Vice President; Jane McCelland; June Burgett , Secretary; Bob Dolezilek; Sandy Tomson, Treasurer; Charles Foster.

Eagles and Dawgs Spilit in Baseball
With a 12-0 record and a number one 3A ranking, Silver Lake appeared to be the favorite over the 9-1 Bulldogs in a double header pitting the two leading teams in the Mid-East League.
But the Dawgs were not impressed and inflicted a 7-2 beating of the Eagles in the first game. Scott Shinn only allowed 4 hits, but one was a home run.
But, the Eagles bounced back and the wheels came off in a 6 run third to put an 11-1 hurt on the Dawgs.
