Amanda Hurtig Gets YWCA Scholarship

Rossville High Rated Bronze by US News

    US News and World Report has rated all the high schools across the country.  The highest rated received Gold, Silver or Bronze awards.   In Kansas there were two rated gold and 8 rated Silver.  The twenty one schools rated Bronze included Rossville High (and also Silver Lake).

Washburn U. Announces RHS Scholarships

Washburn University has announced that several students from Rossville High will be receiving scholarships for the coming year.  The students are: Nathaniel Jelinek, Academic; Rebecca Sage, Academic; Taylor Tomson, Presidential; Alexandra Zlatnik, Academic and Presidential

Baseball Team Sweeps Osage City

  The Bulldog baseball team  swept Osage City (22-8, 10-0) and split with Rock Creek (5-1 win, 5-1 loss) to move to 13-3.

3A Regional Softball Tournament


    The 3A Regional Softball tournament gets under way on Monday, May 13  at Marion.  Rossville is seeded #2  of the seven teams.  Council Grove gets the lone bye.  There are two teams at #3 and two at #6 per the published list,  but actually Rossville is in the #2 spot and St. Marys in the #7 spot.

3A Regional Baseball Tournament

  The 3A Baseball regional gets under way on Monday, May 13,  with Silver Lake  (13-1) and Rossville (13-3)  getting byes because of their #1 and #2 seeding.
Games Monday — Pleasant Ridge (5: 7-9) at Riverside (4: 9-6), 6 p.m.; Atchison County (6: 4-11) at Maur Hill (3: 9-4), 4:30 p.m. 
Games Wednesday — Silver Lake (1: 13-1) vs. Riverside-Pleasant Ridge winner, 2 p.m.; Rossville (2: 13-3) vs. Maur Hill-Atchison County winner, 4:30 p.m.; Championship, 7 p.m.    These games will be at Effingham.

The Mid-East League golf tournament was held May 7 at the Stagg Hill Golf Course and the results are as follows:

The Rossville Invitational Golf tournament was held on the St. Marys course on April 30.

Mindy Wilson (12) Competing At Ft. Hays

Mindy Wilson has been busy on the Ft. Hays State track team competing in several events.

At the Emporia Invitational on April 6,  Mindy competed in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles and also the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays.  She came in 19th of 30 runners in the 100 M hurdles and 12th of 33 in the 400 M hurdles.  The Ft. Hays team was 11th of 13 in the 4 x 100 M relay and 9th of 19 in the 4 x 400 M relay race.

At the KT Woodman Invitational at Wichita State on April 12,  Mindy was on the 4 x 100 relay team, which came in 10th of 13 teams,  and the 4 x 400 M relay team which came in 10th of 13 teams.

At the Ollie Isson Invitational on April 27,  Mindy was 5th of 8 in the 100 M hurdles and came in 1st  of 5 runners in the 400 M hurdles.

At the 2013 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field meet on May 4 at Ft. Hays,  Mindy was 10th of 22 in the 400 M hurdles.  She was also on the 4 x 400 M relay team which came in 8th of 11 teams.

Ray Kovar (57) Invitational Track & Field

    The Rossville Track and Field team competed in the Ray Kovar Invitational at St. Marys on April 26.
    The girls team placed 6th out of 13 teams.  Tehy won no events,  but placed second in the 4 x M 100 Relay and  Amanda Hurtig was 2nd in the 800 M run.
    The boys team was 3rd of 14 teams compeing.  The lone event winner was Kyle Parr in the high jump.  He also was 2nd in the triple jump.  The team also picked up 2nd place finishes in the 4 x 400 M relay and 4 x 800 M relay

Willard Bridge & Area History/Planning

    A new Willard Bridge is being planned to replace the structure built in 1955.  At the same time,  the Shawnee Co. Historical Society is attempting to use the bridge to make people more aware of the area's historical significance.
    At one time,  Uniontown, near present day Willard, was the largest settlement in Kansas and was the site of a limestone ford across the Kansas River, and was later the site of a ferry.

Mark Smith (12) on Vice-Presidents List

     Mark W. Smith, a freshman at Dodge City Community College, was on the Vice-Presidents List the fall semester.  A 3.5 or higher GPA is required to be on that list.
     Mark was also on the football team this year.
