Dual-threat quarterback Tucker Horak ran 12 times for six touchdowns and 209 yards Tuesday night as Rossville remained unbeaten, eliminating Pleasant Ridge with a 49-0 victory in the first round of the Class 3A state tourney.
The Bulldogs — who earned their fourth straight shutout and have allowed just 81 points this season — jumped out to a 28-0 first-quarter lead and led 49-0 at halftime of the rainy game.
“We’re continuing to play good defense,” said first-year coach Rossville coach Derick Hammes. “That’s something to hang our hat on. We executed well in adverse weather.”
Horak, who also had an interception, scored on runs of 55, 45, 30, 11, 10 and 7 and has 29 rushing TDs this season and 1,441 rushing yards.
Hammes led the Bulldogs (10-0) over his former coaching partner at Rural, Pleasant Ridge coach Pat McCollim, whose Rams (5-5) lost to Rossville in the first round of last year’s playoffs.
Rossville will play Nemaha Valley (9-1) on Saturday.
