Tucker Horak Area Athlete Of Week

Bulldawg standout rushes for 359 yards, 5 TDs, throws for 2 TDs in win over Rock Creek

His performance: Horak has enjoyed numerous monstrous performances in his career, but Friday night’s in a 55-21 win over Rock Creek might have been his best. Busting touchdown runs of 38, 78, 66, 10 and 87 yards, Horak ran for a whopping 359 yards on just 13 carries and average of 27.6 yards per carry. For good measure, he also complete 9 of 10 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Coach’s comment: “Nothing shocks me anymore when it comes to Tucker,” Rossville coach Derick Hammes said. “He is such a fierce competitor that even when a play breaks down he can make it a positive. Friday, he put everything together for a great ball game against what I thought was a good team.”

Baseball Film Shoot In Rossville

It's official!  Rossville was selected as the location for a documentary film shoot and we need your help! Here is the information from the producer:

We're headed back to Rossville, KS and Joe Campbell Stadium to re-enact some scenes from an early 1900s town team baseball game. We've set the date for Sunday, October 18th. More details to come but please mark the date and if you show up wearing anything resembling early 20th century clothing, we'll make you an extra in our film shoot.
Here's our wish list:
- Model T cars and owners
- Early 20th century baseball gloves and equipment
- Ball players willing to be directed in a film shoot
- hundreds of fans
More details in the coming days but spread the word. It should be a fun production.

The Thornburg's, Rossville P R I D E and the Rossville Rattlers are involved in a community project...and it's coming up fast. Sunday October 18th 1pm @ Rossville's own Joe Campbell Memorial Staduim will be the site for filming a few scenes for a baseball documentary. A re-enactment of a 1919 town team baseball game. Well as you know The Joe doesn't quite look like that anymore. Well here's where you all come in. Mark is needing a lot of fans (about 200 is his goal)to fill the stadium and along the baselines. Plus he will also need some Model T's and other cars that would have be around at that time...he was also ok with some from the 1920's. He needs these to park along the baselines since the fields of those days didn't have fences. Also we could use a wagon and a team of horses...it is 1919.
He has the uniforms but will need to borrow some old mitts and equipment for the players.
Ok so what would I wear as an extra in this documentary. For the guys it isn't too hard. Plain white or light dress shirts, suspenders, vest and trousers, jeans would be ok also. Overalls and don't forget the great hats...derbys, flat caps. There is also great moustaches then. The women need long skirts and feminine blouses and large hats, or simple long dresses and their hair put up. It isn't too hard just Google the 1919's. And remember this is about the town teams of Kansas. WW1 was over and Prohibition was about to start. Wodrow Wilson was President!
Doesn't this sound like a fun day! He is only filming for maybe 6 hours so it is a one shot kinda of day.
Share this around...Holton, Wamego, Dover, Alma, Centrailia, St Mary's Silver Lake Osage City Perry Manhattan. We really need about 20 cars to block the fence out. I know we can count on this area to step up to the plate! Mark chose Rossville out of the whole state of Kansas! Let's do this Friends!
If you have questions or want more info or want to sign up to volunteer a car or be an extra or just want to help sponsor this project. Here's how to contact Mark Honer at DHTV Digital . 913-262-7800 or markh@dhtvdigital.com.
.He is an email kinda guy!

Offensive Line Leads Rossville

Fron the Capital Journal:
Such a household name for anyone who follows Kansas high school football.
The Bulldawg senior quarterback is coming off of back-to-back huge seasons and already is off to a big start in 2015. In fact on Friday night against Rock Creek, Horak enjoyed the greatest statistical game of his career, rushing for a whopping 359 yards and five touchdowns on a mere 13 carries, while also completing 9 of 10 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
A game like that will make a name for a player. But Horak would just as soon it make a name for some of his teammates who typically toil in anonymity: his offensive line.
“They’re doing an amazing job of making good things happen for us,” Horak said. “When you have an offense as explosive as ours, they don’t get near the credit that they deserve. They sure make things easy for me.”
So who are “They?” Well, here you go.
At left tackle is Kole Davoren. At left guard Gabe Marney. At center Zach Jensen. At right guard Tyler Sage. And at right tackle Jackson Reeves.
Four of the five are seniors with Reeves the lone junior. Four of the five are returning starters, again Reeves the only newcomer to the group.
Rossville has gone 29-1 over the last two-plus years, and these guys are a major reason why.
“I think everything starts with the offensive line,” Rossville coach Derick Hammes said. “I think the playmakers that we’ve had and the kids that are playing with us now all recognize that it doesn’t get done without those guys.”
Not only is the unit senior-heavy, but there’s plenty of experience in those seniors. Sage and Jensen are both three-year starters, while Davoren and Marney are two-year starters. Marney was the only member of the group to earn All-Mid-East League honors last year, getting an honorable mention nod.
That experience has been invaluable, Hammes said, as has been the influence of former Hayden standout Dan Schneider as the team’s line coach.
“I think there’s a chemistry and things offensive linemen have to do in terms of working together that make it very important,” Hammes said. “The fact that we have four of these linemen back from last year is big because they’ve seen and done a lot of things together.
“(Schneider) has done a great job and to me he’s so valuable because he can take those guys and make them adjust to do the things they need to do when they see it. That happens a lot for us as people change their schemes and try to figure out a way to get the ball out of (Horak’s) hands and stop our running game. What we see on film may not be what we see on Friday nights.”
The days of Rossville’s undersized lines also seem to be a thing of the past. Four of the five starters are 220 pounds or bigger, as are key senior reserves Eric Ebert and Chayne Hulbert, whom Hammes said would start for most 3A programs but merely provide great depth for the Bulldawgs.
Through three games, Rossville is averaging 525 yards and 54 points per game.

“More of it than anything is schematically for the past two years, we’ve been getting off the ball and blocking the right people,” Hammes said. “They’re coached really well and they’re smart kids, too. This group, what they’ve done in the weight room, they really had to work to get there. The last couple of years, we’ve seen their strength numbers go up and they’ve just been really good for us.”
