WIBW Report Of Record Setting Game

ROSSVILLE, Kan. (WIBW) -- After two buzzer-beaters, an impressive comeback, and 52 minutes and four overtimes, the Royal Valley Panthers defeated the Rossville Lady Dawgs 98-94.
In the first overtime, Rossville hit a three-pointer with six seconds remaining to force the game into a second overtime.
With 1:37 left in double overtime, Royal Valley led 73-66. Just 97 seconds later, it was 76-76 and heading to a third extra period.
Royal Valley trailed by three with just seconds left, but sophomore Tamo Thomas connected on a three to force the game into a fourth and final overtime.
In the final frame, Rossville missed a few chances to tie it with about ten seconds remaining. After two free throws, Royal Valley held a four-point lead and the game ended 98-94.
Royal Valley's Kathryn Hanson scored 29 points. Toma Thomas scored 26.
Rossville's Heidi Nitsch led all scorers with 30 points. Amanda Hill chipped in 27 points.
According the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, the combined 192 points is a state record. The record was 185 points in an overtime game in 1998.

Mid-East League standouts go undefeated for back-to-back state wrestling titles

Luellen’s performance: Luellen capped a 46-0 season by winning his second straight 182-pound Class 3-2-1A state title Saturday in Hays. Luellen posted a 16-3 major decision victory over Lyons’ Cody Clarke in the finals and his closest match of the year was a two-point win. Luellen went undefeated for the second straight year, was a three-time state finalist and finished his career 141-23.
Tyler’s performance: Tyler also captured his second straight state title at 145 pounds, concluding a 43-0 season with a 23-6 technical fall win over Wabaunsee’s Kolby Droegemeier in the championship match. Tyler went 94-1 the past two seasons, concluding his career with a 165-22 record.

Rossville Girls Lose In 4th OT

     The RHS-Hoyt-Royal Valley sub state game is a close and exciting game with the Lady Dawgs having a 30-24 lead at the half.  Rossville inbounded the ball with 1.3 seconds on the clock and a quick shot went in to give them the six point half-time lead.

    Hoyt had a rally in the third quarter tying the score several times and taking the lead a couple times before the third quarter ended with the teams tied at 42-42.
    Tied at the end of the 4th quarter at 59-59
    Tied at the end of the first OT at 66-66.
     Tied at the end of the second OT at  76-76.
     Tied at the end of the third OT at 87-87.
      Lady Dawgs lose at end of fourth OT 98-94.  It almost went into the fifth OT but Rossville,
      down by 2 pts,  missed several shots near the basket in the closing seconds.  A foul allowed
      Hoyt to make two free throws with 1.3 seconds remaining to stretch the lead to 4 pts.

Timothy Nesbitt III Passes Away

    Timothy W. Nesbitt III, 15, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka from injuries he received earlier in an auto accident.
    He was born January 24, 2001 in Topeka, the son of Timothy W. Nesbitt Jr. and Ashley Olson.  Timmy grew up in Silver Lake and was a freshman at the Silver Lake High School.  He was on the football and wrestling teams, he participated in track and had been in the school play.  Timmy was a member of the Student Council and FFA.   He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Silver Lake.
    He was preceded in death by an uncle, Brad Brady.
    Survivors include his father, Timothy W. Nesbitt, Jr., Holton, his mother and step-father, Ashley and Shannon TenEyck, Silver Lake; brothers Seth, Colton and Camden TenEyck, Silver Lake; sisters, Isabell Nesbitt, Emporia and Emilee Nesbitt, Holton; grandparents Anita and John Robb, Delia, Jake Olson, Rossville, Jayne and Al Logue, Topeka, Timothy W. Nesbitt Sr, Topeka and Alfred and Cheryl TenEyck, St. Marys.
    Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Silver Lake High School Gym.  Interment will be in the Delia Cemetery.  Timmy will lie in state from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, 3439 NW Hoch Rd, Silver Lake.  Memorial contributions may be made in Timothy.s name and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536

RHS Boys Demolish Mission Valley

    The Dawgs jumped off to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter and then made liberal substitutions to get a lot of players into the rest of the game.  A continuous running clock during the fourth quarter limited the scoring in that quarter.

Silver Lake Teen Dies In Auto Accident

TOPEKA (KSNT) — The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a Silver Lake teen injured in a car crash last Tuesday has died.
Shawnee County Sheriff Todd Stallbaumer said Superintendent Tim Hallacy with Silver Lake Schools confirmed that 15-year-old Tim othy W. Nesbitt passed away due to injuries he sustained in the crash on February 22, 2016.
The crash occurred at the east curve of NW 46th Street and Hoch Road just north of Silver Lake
According to a press release from the Shawnee County Law Enforcement Center, Nesbitt failed to navigate the curve. The car went straight through the guardrail and into a heavily wooded area about 100 feet away from the road.
Silver Lake Schools posted the following on their Facebook Monday morning:

Band & Choir Concert Mar. 7

Monday, March 7th at 7:00 pm 
is the 
7-12th Band & Choir Concert in the RJSHS auditorium. 
Come hear a wide-variety of musical performances, featuring some of the small ensembles that received high ratings at the Mid-East League Music Festival hosted at Rossville on Wednesday, February 17th.
These senior high groups, both band and choir, will be working to polish their songs in preparation for Regional Music Festival on Saturday, April 2nd. Limeades will also be returning for their encore appearance!

    The RHS girl's basketball team will host Hoyt-Royal Valley at 7:00 PM on Tue. evening in the first round of the sub-state tournament.
