Neva Padgett Passes Away


     Neva Padgett, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at a Topeka hospital.
     She was born January 3, 1935 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Samuel and Ethel (Spurgin) Smith. Neva graduated from Rossville High School. She was employed by F.W. Woolworth s and Jostens Yearbook Company. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
     Neva married Clyde C.A. Padgett, Sr. on November 4, 1952 in Rossville. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2006. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Clyde Albert, Jr. and Phillip Andrew Padgett and one granddaughter, Margaret Maggie Elizabeth Rogers. Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Marie Trovato of Virginia Beach, VA, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, her sister, Phyllis Marney of Rossville, her brother-in-law, William F. Padgett of Topeka and numerous nieces and nephews.
     Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Neva will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, Kansas 66506. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family. Dawson Hammes Signs Football LOI

    RHS senior Dawson Hamms has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at Emporia State U. this coming fall.

Amanda Hill On Area Athlete List

    Amanda Hill was one of the ten nominees for Area Athlete of the Week this week.  Here is what the Capital Journal said about her.

AMANDA HILL, ROSSVILLE BASKETBALL: Hill exploded for 27 points in the championship game of the Jefferson North Invitational as the Bulldawgs fought off tourney host and unbeaten Jefferson North 53-45 for the the tournament title. Hill averaged 19.3 points at the tourney.
