Softball Team At Manhattan
Rossville's softball team visited Manhattan on April 11 and dominated the matchup with scores of 13-2 and 13-5. The RHS girls are now 8-0 in the early season outscoring their opponents 111-15.
Softball Team Sweeps Riley
The Lady Dawgs sent the Riley Co. softball team home scoreless on April 10. Rossville swept the twin bill with imposing scores of 11-0 and 15-0.
Baseball Team Splits With Riley
The Dawgs split a double header with Riley County on April 10, losing the first game 3-5, but winning the second game 5-1. The Dawgs are 2-4 for the season and 1-3 in the MEL.
Lora and Sara Shinn Honored
Lora and Sara Shinn were nominees for the Capital-Journal Athlete Of The Week this week. The twin sisters were a big part of the offense at the plate during the Dawg's 4-0 start of the season, with the pair going 18/35 with 5 doubles, 4 homers and 22 RGIs.Sara had 3 of the homers and scored 8 runs and each had 11 RBIs

Softball Team Wins Two
The RHS girls continued their perfect record with two convincing wins over the Wabaunsee Chargers on April 7. The scores were 13-2 and 15-5 to up their season record to 4-0.
Baseball Team Loses Two
The RHS baseball team dropped two games against Wabaunsee on April 7. The scores were 12-1 and 9-5 which brings the season record to 1-3 thus far.
Vincent Dudney Passes Away
Vincent Bryce "Pete" Dudney, 80, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
He was born January 3, 1937 at Dover, the son of Vincent G. and Edna Lister Dudney.. Pete graduated from Dover High School in 1955 and served in the Kansas Army National Guard.
Pete worked for the Gas Service Company retiring after 44 years of service. He was an avid Coon Hunter and played softball in his younger years. Pete was on the football "Chain Gang" at Rossville High many years and loved to fish. He was a small engine mechanic. Pete was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville and the Rossville United Methodist Church.
On August 17, 1958 he was united in marriage to Barbara Gentry at Rossville. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2011.
Survivors include his son, Mark Dudney, Silver Lake; two daughters, Robyn Dudney, Silver Lake, and Brenda Powell, Temple TX; two sisters, Beverly (Larry) Ketter, Topeka and JoAnn (Neil) Crow, Maple Hill; brother-in-law, Bill Gentry, Rossville; sister-in-law, Linda Gentry, Rossville; his granddaughter, Alayna Powell, Temple, TX.
Memorial graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Rossville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Rossville United Methodist Church.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pete Dudney Memorial Fund, the Rossville United Methodist Church or Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

Softball Team Rolls Over Santa Fe
The RHS softball team got off to an excellent start with two lopsided wins over Santa Fe Trail on Thursday, April 4. The scores were 15-0 and 10-1.
Dawgs Split With Santa Fe In Baseball
The RHS baseball team split a double Header with Santa Fe Trail on April 4, The Dawgs won the first game 18-11, but lost the second one 3-5.

Sally Heslet Passes Away
Due to complications from cancer and surrounded by family, Sally Heslet, 76, went to be with the Lord on April 1st, 2017.
Sally was born July 31st, 1940 to Raymond Rice and Mary Kinsey in Kansas City, MO. After moving to Kansas from Des Moines, IA, Sally worked food service and bartending for the Knights of Columbus in St. Marys, KS and the American Legion Post #31 in Rossville, KS. She was then employed by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas before running the Swirly Top restaurant in Rossville from 1993 to 2010. Sally was an avid reader and loved her stable of television shows. She was a loving and caring mother. Sally was best known for her role as a grandmother, commonly called Grammy by the entire family. She was a great listener and an even better talker. Sally will be missed greatly but her legacy will undoubtedly continue on through her impact on the community, friends, and family.
Sally was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Kingcade of Ukiah, CA. She is survived by her sister, Mary Patricia Sheridan of California, as well as her four children: Jesse; Tina of Drexel, MO; Tammy of Rossville, KS; and Tonya of Silver Lake, KS. Sally has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she was most proud of and loved very much.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Monday, April 10th, at 10 A.M. at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions in Sally s name can be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society, American Legion Post #31 of Rossville, or the Rossville United Methodist Church. Special thanks to all friends, family, and acquaintances who have made Sally s life so full of joy and love.
