Perry-Lecompton Invitational Golf

    The team standings at the Perry-Lecompton Invitational golf tournament at the Lake Perry Golf Club on May 4 were:

Cory Hadsall was 9th with an 89.  Andrew Hudson was right behind with a 90 good for 10th place.

Taylor Kirk (15) is All Conference At JCCC

    Taylor Kirk,  a freshman at Johnson County Community College, plays third base on their softball team and was selected First Team on the All Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

7th -12th Grade Pops Concert May 12th

The 7th-12th Pops Concert is this Friday, May 12th at 7:00 PM. It will feature some great music, including some highlights from Bohemian Rhapsody, Pentatonix, Les Miserables, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and much more!

The Senior High Band, joined with by some special guests, will close the concert with a piece called "Tribute and Celebration," which was commissioned in 2003 to honor Cole Arnold, son of Mr. & Mrs. McCullough, who passed away in a car accident in June of 2003. This is a beautiful and moving piece, you will not want to miss it!

Rey Morford Passes Away

Rey E. Morford, 91, passed away Sunday May 7, 2017 at his home in St. Marys.
He was born May 5, 1926 at rural Delia, the son of Arthur and Josie Clouse Morford.  Rey grew up on the family farm and graduated from Emmett High School in 1944.  He served in the United States Army during WWII and received the Victory medal.
Rey had lived on the farm many years and moved to St. Marys in 2007.  When asked why he moved to town Rey said “seventy years of mud was enough”.  Rey had a verity of occupations including, working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka, Firestone Tires in Topeka, the Rossville Dehydrator, Jeffrey Energy Center and he retired from Jackson County Road and Bridge Department.  Rey was also a farmer and rancher.  He was a member of Assumption Chapel in St. Marys. Rey had been a member of the American Legion in Holton, the Emmett Lions Club, had served on the Adrian Township Board and Cemetery Board along with being a member of the Delia School Board.  He had served as a committeeman for the Jackson County Republican Party.
On September 11, 1948 he was united in marriage to Patricia A. Cassity at Westmoreland.  She preceded him in death on May 27, 2004; he was also preceded in death by a son, David Morford on August 29, 2005; a grand-daughter Kristin Morford, July 4, 2010; a step-grandson, Shawn Perry;  his siblings, Lynn, Arthur and Larry Morford, Alice Pitney and Edith Davison.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur Morford, Topeka, William “Bill” (Nancy) Morford, St. Marys; three daughters, Diana (Bob) Dolezilek, Holton, Deborah (Richard) Beasterfeld, Belvue and Jean Holt, Holton; a sister, Louise Sedlacek, Frankfort, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Morford will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys.  A rosary will be recited at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 12, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Emmett.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the Emmett Alumni Association or Great Lakes Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.

Baseball Team Gets Win On Friday

    The RHS baseball team split with Leavenworth on Friday,  winning the first game 5-4 but losing the second 13-0.    The Dawgs are 3-13 for the season.

Volunteers Needed For Book Sale

Friends of the Rossville Community Library is needing volunteers to help with the Book Sale.
Wednesday, May 10th starting at 6:00 p.m.
Friday, May 12 starting at 6:15 p.m. 

Meet at 410 Main Street across the street from the library to help unload and set up books on Wednesday.
On Friday, we will need help boxing up any remaining books after the sale.
Volunteers on Wednesday night will be allowed to shop while unpacking. ($5.00/bag except for signed books)

Car Hits Silo In Rossville

From the Capital-Jouirnal:
A 36-year-old Topeka man was taken to Stormont Vail with unknown injuries after a crash Saturday afternoon in Rossville.
Kansas Highway Patrol officials said the crash occurred at around 2:10 p.m. on eastbound US-24 highway at Main Street in the northwest Shawnee County town.
The 1994 Toyota passenger car was traveling eastbound on US-24 when for unknown reasons, the car left the roadway to the north and struck a grain silo.
David A Rivera, the driver of the vehicle, was taken to Stormont. He wasn’t wearing his seat belt, KHP officials said.

Taylor Kirk (15) In NJCAA Div. II Finals


    Above is a picture of Taylor Kirk and her softball team from Johnson County Community College. They swept their District D regional in Topeka at Hummer Sport Complex going 5-0. Taylor and the team  will now be traveling  to Clinton, Mississippi, for the NJCAA Division II Nationals May 17th - 20th, 2017.  
   In the championship game Taylor batted .500 going 2-4 with a walk, two homeruns and 4 RBI's.

Ashley Rietcheck On Academic All-State List

    Ashley Rietcheck, daughter of Andy and Denise Rietcheck was named to the All-State Academic Team Honorable Mentions by the Capital-Journal.  She plans to attend Emporia State University
