Dawgs Defeat Mission Valley 34-6

The Dawgs relied primarily on a rushing offense to dominate the Mission Valley Vikings 34-6 in the final District 4 game, which was also senior night and the last game before the Dawgs go into the 2A playoffs.

The Dawgs got on the board first when Bo Reeves rambled about 55 yards for a TD in the first five minutes.    The Mission Valley Vikings responded with their own TD,  but failed on a two point conversion.       The Dawgs came right back and Tyree Sowers went 75 yards for another TD to go up 14-6 in the first quarter.

In the second quarter,  the Dawgs and Vikings  spared most of the quarter with neither team mounting a successful drive until the Dawgs scored on a long pass from Carver to Reeves of about 40 yards to go up 21-6 with about one minute remaining in the half.

In the third quarter,  Bo Reeves took the opening kick-off and ran it up the center for a 90 yard TD.    Trevor Johnson took his turn in the scoring column with 3:31 left in the third when he picked up a 23 yard rushing TD.  Score at the end of the quarter 34-6.  And that score stayed the same through the 4th quarter.

MISSION VALLEY (5-2) AT ROSSVILLE (5-2) Oct. 19
Both teams have already clinched playoff berths out of Class 2A’s District 4. Rossville still has a shot at capturing the district title, however, needing a win over the Vikings and either a loss by Riley County or a one-point win by the Falcons over St. Marys coupled with a 13-point win by the Bulldawgs over Mission Valley. Rossville has extra motivation as a 33-27 overtime loss to the Vikings last year played a big role in the Bulldawgs missing the playoffs after winning three straight Class 3A titles. The win was one of the biggest in program history for the Vikings, who have followed with a strong season in Justin Duncan’s first year as coach. Cohle Phillips leads the Vikings with 836 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while quarterback Trevor Moore has a combined 1,004 rushing and passing yards and 14 touchdowns. Rossville quarterback Garrett Carver has been a one-man wrecking crew with 942 yards and seven touchdowns passing and 796 yards and 15 touchdowns rushing.
Prediction: Rossville over Mission Valley
