Helen Brock Passes Away
Helen Grace Brock (Volz) continued quietly on her journey to be with her God on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Midland Hospice House, surrounded by her family. She was born September 26, 1923, the only child of David Volz and Mary Volz (Frederick), in Richardson County, Nebraska.
Helen started school in Nebraska, then moved with her parents to a farm near Powhattan, KS. She graduated from Powhattan High School and Clarke’s Business School in Topeka. Her first job was with Security Benefit Insurance Company. She married Martin Brock in November 1942. They eventually settled in Delia, KS, where they raised their family. She was the organist at Sacred Heart Church for many years. She also served as Delia’s City Clerk for many years and was an Avon representative. After all of her children were in school, Helen went back to work. She especially enjoyed her years working for the Kansas Corporation Commission.
After Martin died in 1976, Helen moved to Topeka to be closer to family and became a member of Most Pure Hear of Mary Catholic Church. She participated in various activities, including square dancing and singing in the New Beginnings Choir. She loved to travel and was able to make several trips to different parts of the world. Helen supported her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors, and loved watching all of her grandchildren’s events—sporting and otherwise.
Martin and Helen had 13 children, including three sets of twins. Survivors include twins Mary Coleen Oberle (Jerome), Overland Park, and Margaret Kathleen (Katie) Lutz (Larry, Sr.), Timothy Brock (Nancy), Topeka, Barbara Hum (Ray), Ooltewah, TN, Sheila Stueve, Daniel Brock, Topeka, David Brock, Wylie, TX, twins Gregory Brock, San Ramon, CA, and Deborah Brock, Topeka, and Terence Brock (Ann Merise), Agency, MO. Survivors also include 23 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, living from one end of the country to the other.
Helen was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, and three children, twins Patrick and Michael, and Mary Theresa. She was also pre-deceased by two grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Sacred Heart Oratory, Delia, KS, with visitation at 10:30, rosary at 11:00, and funeral Mass at 11:30. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in St. Marys. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Oratory in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, KS 66536.
The family would like to thank The University of Kansas St. Francis Campus and Midland Hospice for the care given to Helen in her final days.
