Linda Kelsey (62) Wise Passes Away

Linda Kelsey Wise, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. She is now our angel in heaven alongside her parents watching over us.

Linda was born in Rossville, Kansas to Scott and Faye Kelsey on September 18, 1944. She graduated from The University of Kansas in 1966 and loved her Jayhawks. She was a wonderful stay at home mom who provided unconditional love and guidance. Being a mother was her most rewarding job. After her children were grown she worked a number of years at St. Anthony’s Bone and Joint Hospital in Oklahoma City and later as a hospice nurse where she touched lots of families. She was a friend to many and loved by all. There has never been a more amazing mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend.

Linda’s nurturing and compassionate nature called her to volunteer at Project 66 Food Pantry in Edmond and was an active member of Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City.

Linda is survived by her son, Jereme and Jennifer Wise of Austin, Texas. Daughter, Heidi and Brian Reeder of Edmond, Oklahoma. Brother Doug and Dar Kelsey of Mesa, Arizona. Grandchildren – Keelie Brei of Austin, Texas - Ella Jane and Grady James of Edmond, Oklahoma.

A celebration of her life will be held on March 15, 2019 at 2:00PM – Crossings Community Church, 14600 North Portland Ave. – Oklahoma City, OK 73134

Washburn U. Softball Team Adds 2 Wins

    Washburn added two more wins to their record on Fri, Mar. 8.
    They first defeated Lindenwood  7-5 in which Taylor Kirk from Rossville had one hit, one RBI, and one walk in three at-bats.
    In the nite-cap, they added an  easy 7-2 win as Taylor  had two hits, one run, one RBI in three at-bats.

Washburn U. Gets Two Softball Wins

    The Washburn softball team picked up two wins against Lincoln U. of Missouri on Thur.
    In the first game, a 2-1 Washburn victory, Taylor Kirk had two hits on 3 at-bats and drove in one of the two RBIs.
    In the second game, the Ichabod's  picked up an easy 8-0 win, Taylor had no hits or RBIs in her 3 at-bats

Paul Borcherding (17) On KS All-State Academic Team


Paul Borcherding, a sophomore at Allen Community College, was selected as one of the two students from the Iola campus that were named to the Kansas All-State Academic Team, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa and the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees. He had to have at least 36 credit hours, a 3.5 GPA, plans to transfer to a university, and complete a 500-word essay on leadership to be selected as a Kansas All-State scholar. He plans to transfer to Washburn university to study music education.

Steven Donahue Passes Away

Steven R Donahue, 53, passed away on February 28, 2019. He was born July 12, 1965 to Robert and Mary (Winter) Donahue. He graduated from Royal Valley High School in 1983. Steven is survived by his parents and three sisters, Lori DeVorss, Linda Wichman, and Lisa Conus along with three nieces, two nephews, a great niece and great nephew. 

A celebration of life will be held March 17, 2019 from 4-6PM at Mikey's Bar and Grill, 601 E Hwy 24, Rossville, KS 66533.

Mary Wanda Love Passes Away

Mary Wanda Love spread her wings and left this earth on March 2nd. She was born on February 22, 1944 in Beaumont Texas to Betty and Jason (Red) Peery. She is survived by her husband George Love of St. Marys, daughter Anita (Stubbs) Lamberson of Rossville, two brothers, Mack Peery of Arizona and James Peery of Washington, her Aunt Phyllis Marney, four grandchildren; Adam Rodenbaugh, David Rodenbaugh, Tom Rodenbaugh and Sarah Jones and three loving great-grandchildren along with many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents and older brother Floyd Peery.
Wanda married Carl Stubbs and they had one perfect child, Anita. Later she married her soul mate George and they had 46 happy years together filled with dancing, camping, bowling and other fun activities. She treasured her family and left us with wonderful memories of a life too short but filled with laughter.
There will be a celebration of Wanda’s life at 3 pm Friday March 8th at Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, KS 66536.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Great Lakes Hospice, 3715 SW 29th Ste 100, Topeka, KS, 66614.

David Jacobson (80) named Engineer of the Year


TOPEKA, Kan.— Kansas Turnpike Authority’s Director of Engineering, David Jacobson, was named Engineer of the Year by the Topeka Chapter of the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers (KSPE) on February 28. This prestigious award recognizes a registered engineer’s outstanding contributions to their profession and community.
KTA’s Open Road Tolling conversion project at the East Topeka (I-70/KTA) toll plaza was also recognized as the Outstanding Engineering Achievement by KSPE Topeka Chapter.
“I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than David,” said Steve Hewitt, KTA’s Chief Executive Officer. “He stands at the helm of our decade-long modernization and preservation efforts, most notably our work to convert mainline plazas to open road tolling. His work and dedication are enormous assets to KTA and in transforming tolling in Kansas.”
At KTA, Jacobson leads a team of staff assistants, field personnel and other professional engineers. Within Kansas, Jacobson has held and continues to hold multiple leadership roles, including Board Secretary of the Engineering Foundation of Kansas. In the past eight years, he has presented at more than 15 times at the state, regional, national and international level.
