Taylor Kirk (15) and WU Beat PSU

    Washburn U. won two softball games against Pittsburgh State U. on April 1.
    In game one,  Taylor Kirk had no hits in three at-bats and Washburn prevailed 3-0.
    Taylor led the offense in game two with three hits, four RBIs, and scored two runs in three at-bats.  One of the hits was a home run as Washburn won 8-3.  Taylor also had a sacrifice bunt. 

Elizabeth Page Passes Away

Elizabeth Maxine "Betty" Page, 101, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka.
She was born June 4, 1917 on the family farm near Dover, the daughter of W.A. and Della Morrow Eddy.
Betty had lived in Topeka before moving to Arizona where she lived many years. After the death of her husband Alfred she moved back to Kansas and lived with a nephew, Gordon and Connie Eddy. She had lived at Aldersgate for several years. Betty was a shoe salesperson and worked for Robinson's Shoes for many years.
She was married to Alfred B. Page at Grove, OK. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2012. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Eddy.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Dover Federated Church. Private inurnment for Betty and her husband, Alfred B. Page will be in the Dover Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Federated Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

Regional Solo & Small Ensemble

Rossville musicians performed extremely well at the Regional Solo & Small Ensemble today (Saturday, March 30th) in Holton. We had 20 events perform throughout the day, with the following 11 qualifying for State Competition on Saturday, April 27th - hosted at Southeast of Saline High School. Good work Dawgs!

    The  3-2-1A Regional Solo & Small Ensemble Contest will be at the Holton High School this Sat., March 30.


Outlook For Boys Golf

    The Rossville boys golf team lost 5 players from last years team to graduation.   Chris VanderPutten is a sophomore and is the only returner from last year's team though he is coming back from a knee injury.  The team will be young with just one senior and one junior, five sophomores, and five freshmen.   Greg Marney is the coach.

The Lady Dawgs split their twin bill with Jeff West at Meridan on March 26.  Rossville lost the first game 2-1 but came back and won the second 10-3.

RHS Softball Team Outlook

Last year’s record: 17-4.
Top returners: Kelcie Kippes, P-1B, sr.; Caila Hill, IF, sr.; Kinlyn Lundin, IF-P, jr.; Grace Rabe, IF-P, so.; Destiny Bergstresser, IF, so.
Outlook: Bulldawgs were Mid-East League champions last year and return entire pitching staff. ... Kippes went 10-1 with 1.73 ERA and 63 strikeouts, while Rabe was 7-3 with 3.09 ERA and Lundin was 2-0 with 1.98 ERA. ... Rabe also hit .507 with 25 RBI. ... Lundin hit .458 with 21 RBI, while Kippes hit .383 with 26 RBI and Hill hit .403 with 19 RBI.

Jayleen Farrell (81) Passes Away

    Jayleen A. “Byrrd” Farrell, 55, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the University of Kansas Hospital St. Francis Campus.
    She was born April 11, 1963 at Kansas City. She was the daughter of the late Dennis C. and Delores C. Kolterman Farrell. She lived in the St. Marys and Rossville communities. Byrrd attended St. Marys Grade School, and graduated from Rossville High School. She loved nature and flowers.
    Survivors include her biological daughter, Alex; a brother, Denny Farrell, Valley Center; a sister, Tomi Morford, Topeka.
    A Celebration of Life will be held later. Plant a tree or flowers in memory of Byrrd. Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys is assisting the family. To leave online condolences go to www.piperfuneralhome.com.

Scott Gillum (86) Retires

Scott Gillum has retired after 25 years in law enforcement, first with the Rossville Police Dept and then the Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Dept.
