Two Injured In Auto Accident

From the Capital-Journal:
 Two people were injured Saturday, one with serious injuries, after a two-vehicle crash.
The crash occurred about 4:13 p.m. in the 8500 block of N.W. Capper Road in Rossville.
Shawnee County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene where they found two vehicles had collided, according to a news release from the Shawnee County Undersheriff Phil Blume.
Blume said a gold Ford F-350 was traveling south on N.W. Capper Road when a green Honda Accord traveling north in the southbound lanes collided with the truck.
A passenger of the Honda Accord was treated on scene for injuries and released.
The drivers of both vehicles were transported to the hospital.

Note:  WIBW states that the passenger of the Ford Truck was treated and released and the drivers were taken to the hospital.

Paul Maus (58) Passes Away

    Emmett—Paul H. Maus, 79, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 at his home in Emmett.
    He was born December 16, 1939, in rural Shawnee County the son of John and Cleo Franklin Maus. Paul grew up in the West Union community and graduated from Rossville High School in 1958.
    Paul was a painter and carpenter. He was a member of a Painters Union. He had lived in the Emmett community many years.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Julia Smith, Paul McClure, Ardath Lehman, and Lynn Maus.
    On January 23, 1959 he was united in marriage to Kathryn Failer, she survives of the home.
    Other survivors include his son, Jarrod Maus, Seneca; three daughters, Paula Maus, Karen Maus and Celeste Crites all of Emmett; four grandsons, 1 granddaughter; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; two step-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys, where visitation will be from 1:00 PM. until the service. Please dress casual. Interment will be in the St. Clere Cemetery, Emmett. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.

WU Gets 2 Wins At SW Bap.

    Washburn U. picked up two easy wins against Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, MO on Saturday.
    In game 1, an 8-1 victory, Taylor Kirk had 1 hit and scored twice in 4 at-bats
    Game 2 was a 8-0 win for W.U. and Taylor had 2 hits,  1 run, 1 RBI and 1 Walk in 4 at-bats.  Her hits were a double and a home run. 
    Taylor has a batting average of .362 and a slugging average of .756 so far this season.

Washburn U. Splits on Friday

    Washburn U. softball had a win and a loss against  the University of Central Missouri on Friday, April 5, with a 5-4 loss followed by a 8-2 win.
    In game one,  Taylor Kirk from Rossville had 1 hit in 4 at bats, which generated 1 RBI.
    In game two,  Taylor had a big  day at the plate with 3 hits, 2 runs, and 1 RBI  in 4 at-bats.  The hits included a double and a home run.   

RHS/Santa Fe Trail Softball

  Rossville played Santa Fe Trail on Thursday, April 4 at home.  The Lady Dawgs won one game 16-6 but lost the other 8-6 to run their season record to 3-3.

RHS & Riley Split In Softball

    The RHS softball team played Riley County April 2 with each team getting a 6-5 win.  The Lady Dawgs are now 2-2 for the season.

Dawgs Split With Riley in Baseball

    The RHS baseball team beat Riley County 6-2 in game one, but lost 8-4 in the second game of their April 3 double header.  The Dawgs are 1-1 for the season.

Taylor Kirk (15) and WU Beat PSU

    Washburn U. won two softball games against Pittsburgh State U. on April 1.
    In game one,  Taylor Kirk had no hits in three at-bats and Washburn prevailed 3-0.
    Taylor led the offense in game two with three hits, four RBIs, and scored two runs in three at-bats.  One of the hits was a home run as Washburn won 8-3.  Taylor also had a sacrifice bunt. 

Elizabeth Page Passes Away

Elizabeth Maxine "Betty" Page, 101, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka.
She was born June 4, 1917 on the family farm near Dover, the daughter of W.A. and Della Morrow Eddy.
Betty had lived in Topeka before moving to Arizona where she lived many years. After the death of her husband Alfred she moved back to Kansas and lived with a nephew, Gordon and Connie Eddy. She had lived at Aldersgate for several years. Betty was a shoe salesperson and worked for Robinson's Shoes for many years.
She was married to Alfred B. Page at Grove, OK. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2012. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Eddy.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Dover Federated Church. Private inurnment for Betty and her husband, Alfred B. Page will be in the Dover Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Federated Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
