Brooke Fairbanks Weds Kasey Biddle

    Brooke Ann Fairbanks was married to Kasey Clark Biddle on July 4 in Boulder, CO  Brooke is from Rossville and attended Fort Hays State University.   Kasey is from Atlanta, KS, and studied Biology/Environmental Studies at Sterling College.

Rossville Family Starts Bookstore

Andrew Howard, along with his mother, father and brother, Donna Schultz, Scott Howard and Rain Schultz, officially opened Round Table Bookstore, 826 N. Kansas Ave., on July 5 for the First Friday Art Walk.

The Howards and Schultzes live in Rossville, and all work full-time jobs in addition to opening the new business, which was another reason Andrew Howard said NOTO was the ideal location. Currently their hours are nights and weekends, which allow the family to operate the store around their regular schedules.

The Round Table’s hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. Howard said they are open to adjusting the times based on customers’ needs.

Marjorie Jean (Nadeau)(57) Holzmeister Passes Away

A Memorial Mass for Marjorie Jean (Nadeau) Holzmeister, 80, Lawrence, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence, KS. Rosary will be said at 10:00 a.m. preceding the Mass. Inurnment will be at the Corpus Christi Columbarium. Jean passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

Jean was born May 8, 1939 in Sliver Lake, KS the daughter of Paul Edward and Roxie Marjorie (Mitchell) Nadeau. She was enrolled as a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, where she was aptly named WISHKOSE 'Walking Strong,' a name that exemplified her strong-willed personality throughout her life and her strength in battling her illness. She attended Rossville High School and Washburn University where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She married Richard James Holzmeister on October 8, 1960 in Topeka, KS. He survives of the home.

Jean was a homemaker, a faithful and loving wife, and a proud mother and grandmother whose devotion to her family was unmatched. She showed her support for her loved ones whenever the opportunity arose, attending countless sporting events, celebrations, and other life-milestones for all 15 of her grandchildren. She never missed a high school or college graduation ceremony. 

She was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and a volunteer for various Catholic charities. A true Kansas sports fan, she was a Kansas City Royals supporter and devoted follower of Kansas University basketball. Jean was an active racquetball and later pickleball player, enjoying the fellowship as much as the games. She was also a talented seamstress who lovingly crafted quilts, clothes, pajamas and detailed Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. 

A warm-hearted matriarch, she fostered a supportive and close-knit family environment filled with love, laughter, and card games. She regularly gathered family members from near and far around her home for holidays and special occasions. Jean especially loved the Christmas season, which always included her annual Christmas Eve family gathering, with grandkids looking forward to a new set of her hand-sewn pajamas and a unique tree ornament she had selected especially for each of them. 

In addition to the love and adoration she shared with her family, Jean exemplified the meaning of unconditional love and respect throughout her 59 years of blissful marriage to her husband, Dick. During the many happy years they shared together, she set a wonderful and important example of a true partnership and a loving relationship for her children and grandchildren to aspire to. This environment of warmth and love she created and lived by will be carried on by her loved ones for generations to come. Jean will be greatly missed. 

Other survivors include her daughter Jill ( Steve) Patton, Lawrence; three sons, Jeffery (Lea Ann) Holzmeister, Tempe, AZ, Scott (Deborah) Holzmeister, Gilbert, AZ, Jon (Michelle) Holzmeister, Overland Park, KS; 15 grandchildren; three sisters, Jeanette Lister, Edmond, OK, Sally Carnevale, San Mateo, CA, and Susan Nadeau, Shawnee, KS; and three brothers Michael Nadeau, Silver Lake, KS, David Nadeau, Rossville, KS, Dennis Nadeau, Rossville, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Corpus Christi Catholic School and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    RHS and KSU graduate Haley Brown is now Haley Lynn Brown, ATC.   She now has the opportunity to continue her education and use her Athletic Training Degree as a Graduate Asssistant at Missouri Western State University.

Amy (Elliott) Eaton (87) Passes Away

Amy K. (Elliott) Eaton, 50, of Nickerson, died July 6, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born September 18, 1968, to Richard and Jane (Johnson) Elliott at Fort Riley, KS.

Amy grew up in the Delia, KS, community and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Delia. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1987 and Kansas State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Family Studies with a major in Early Childhood Development. Amy was a preschool teacher at Thatcher Learning Center in Pueblo, CO, for three years, and a District Manager for the Kansas Lottery for 23 years before retiring due to her health.

On November 15, 1997, she married Richard L. Smith in Hutchinson. They later divorced. Amy married Toby Eaton and they divorced.

She is survived by: her parents, Richard and Jane Elliott, Delia; twin children, Tanner and Carly Smith, Nickerson; and brother, Kirk Elliott, Emporia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2019, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson, with Father Michael Kerschen officiating. Burial will follow in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Tanner and Carly Smith Educational Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Dohrman's Celebrate 50th.

John and Paulette (Dohrman) of St. Marys will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 11. The couple was married on July 11, 1969 at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Marys. John is retired from the computer business and also is a retired Colonel from the Kansas Army National Guard. Paulette is a retired teacher having worked 30 years for USD #321.

Catherine (Gresser) (69) Barber Passes Away

Catherine E. (Gresser) Barber, 67, died Friday, June 9, 2019 in Colorado Spring, CO.

She was born October 27, 1951 in Topeka, to Joe M. and Ruth McCurry Gresser. She grew up in Rossville and graduated from Rossville High School in 1969. She later attended Emporia State University and Kansas University.

She married Dale F. Barber March 17, 1976 in Rossville. He survives of the home.

She is also survived by her son, Matthew J. Barber (Andrea), Fruita, CO; her daughter, Courtney E. Gregory (Jeremy), Arvada, CO; a brother, Michael J. Gresser (Hannelore), Ojai, CA; a sister, Carolyn R. Gresser, Rossville; 5 grandchildren, Isaac, Samara, Elijah, Clara and Xander Barber. 

A private memorial service was held June 29, 2019 in Rossville.

Fred Schuler (17) Graduates
