Eustice and Western Injured In UTV Addicent

Law enforcement authorities are investigating an injury accident that sent a woman to the hospital.
Just before midnight Friday, sheriff's deputies responded to NW 54th Street and NW Carlson Road for an injury accident, according to deputy Abigail Christian.
Deputies discovered Kristin T. Eustice, 32, of Rossville was operating a 2015 Polaris Razor Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) southbound on NW Carlson Road just north of 54th Street.

Eustice lost control of the UTV on the gravel causing it to go into the east ditch of NW Carlson Road. She was ejected and the UTV rolled over and came to rest on top of her.

Bystanders rolled the UTV off of Eustice before deputies arrived. A passenger, Laura A. Western, 30, of Rossville, sustained minor injuries.

American Medical Response transported Eustice to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A preliminary investigations show alcohol may be involved, according to Christian.

Steve Buhler Coaches 6th Shrine Bowl

Steve Buhler has coached in six Kansas Shrine Bowl all-star football games, and has enjoyed them all.
But Buhler’s East team that will face the West in Saturday night’s 47th annual Shrine game (7 p.m. kickoff) at Hummer Sports Park will always have a special place in his heart for the challenges it has faced and overcome.
Buhler had to replace 15 players from the time the original East team was announced in January to Sunday’s reporting date, while both teams have had to adhere to a long list of safety guidelines due to the coronavirus while getting ready to play the state’s premier all-star game.
Participants also had to deal with site changes for both the game and training camps, but through it all Buhler said the East has become a team he is proud to coach.

Rossville Pool To Open Jul 17

From the Capital=Journal:
The Rossville Community Pool is set to reopen Friday.
According to a news release from Shawnee County Parks and Recreation’s Mike McLaughlin, repairs that had prevented an earlier reopening are complete, and the pool will be open from noon to 5 p.m. daily, beginning Friday, July 17.
Necessary repairs included lining a gutter return beneath the pool basin and repairing the joints in two pipes that feed the pool’s water slide and mushroom fountain features. According to McLaughlin, the repairs required crews go through the concrete pool deck to repair the pipes.
McLaughlin said the following measures are being taken to keep pool patrons safe during the coronavirus pandemic:
– A safety break is taken every hour on the hour to sanitize commonly touched surfaces including pool railings, slides and diving boards.
– Pool and aquatic centers are deep cleaned each morning and evening.
– Restrooms are cleaned each half hour.

– County employees are advised not to report to work if they are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19.
– Swim lessons and rentals will not be available at the pool in 2020 but will return in future years.
The Rossville pool first opened in 2007, after community residents raised $400,000 and the Rossville City Council approved bonds for construction of the project. The city council contracts with Shawnee County Parks and Recreation to manage the facility.
