Vern Gannon (72) Passes Away
Manhattan—Vern A. Gannon, 66, well-known auctioneer and real estate broker, passed away suddenly late Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan with family by his side.
He was born July 19, 1954, in Topeka, the son of Leo and Rowena M. Hollenbeck Gannon. Vern was raised in the Rossville community and graduated from Rossville High School in 1972. He graduated from the Missouri Auction School at Kansas City.
Vern was an auctioneer for 48 ½ years and was a real estate broker. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Lake Lodge No. 50 and Loyal Chapter No. 175 of the Eastern Star both at Silver Lake. He was a Scottish Rite member, KLPCA (Kansas License Tag Collectors Association), Trails West Red Wing Collectors Society, NAA (National Auctioneer Association), Flint Hill Association of Realtors, a life member of the Kaw Valley Rodeo, and a past member of the Rossville Saddle Club and Palomino Club.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Bennie Stach.
On May 25, 1985, he was united in marriage to Sherri Stach at Rossville. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his daughter, Nicole (Brett) Wright, Council Grove; his brother, Randell (Cindy) Gannon, Rossville; his sister, Linda Lake, New Mexico; mother-in-law Arlis Stach, Manhattan, and his two grandchildren, Bailee and Kolter; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 27, 2021, at the Czech-Moravan Cemetery at Rossville. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Piper Funeral Home, in St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to the Czech Moravan Cemetery and sent in care of the funeral home.

Raymond Minnis Has Passed Away
Rossville-Raymond R. Minnis, 71, died Monday, February 22, 2021, at his home in Rossville.
He was born the son of Russell and Henrietta Ferguson Minnis on September 25, 1949, at Odesa, MO. Raymond grew up in Missouri and Nebraska; he served in the United States Air Force.
Raymond had worked in Food Services For USD No. 475 at Junction City. He moved to Rossville in 2000.
Raymond was married to Gloria Lentis in Omaha, NE., on April 23, 1983. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his son, Russell Minnis, Rossville; his sister, Roberta Bennett, Wichita; his brother, Rick Minnis, Omaha.
Services will be announced by Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas.

Jaimi Olson Passes Away
Jaimi is survived by the love of her life, Phil D. Olson, whom she married in Topeka on April 3, 1992. Phil & Jaimi’s marriage was an example of true love. She is also survived by her children, Tony (Laurel) Adkins of Topeka, Jennell Olson of Silver Lake, Tiffany (John) Phelan of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Philip (Chelsea) Olson of Topeka, Kristen Simpson of Seal Beach, California, Kelly (Tyler) Shobney of Delia, Madilyn Lira of Delia, twenty grandchildren, one great-grandson, and her siblings, Christian Armstrong of Rossville, Travis (Lisa) Armstrong of Rossville, Lance (Shawna) Armstrong of Concord, California, Mysti (Dustin) Moore of Killeen, Texas, Lynn (Wayne) Fast of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and Deborah (Ken)Trice of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
Jaimi left this earth and undoubtedly had a joyous reunion with her son, Anthony Vern “Tony” Armstrong Olson, who died at age 12, her mother Anita Armstrong and her nephew Timmy Nesbitt TenEyck, who all preceded her in death.
Services will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 10:00AM, at the First Baptist Church, 3439 NW Hoch Rd., Silver Lake, Kansas 66539. Jaimi will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the church. Cremation will follow the service and private inurnment will take place in Rossville Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Rossville Fire Department, 301 US Hwy 24, Rossville, Kansas 66533.

Rossville Wrestlers At Sub-State
Rossville had one sub-state champion and qualified three for next week's state tournament in Hays. Layne Hurla won the 145 title with a 12-8 win over Eureka's Brody Harrison in the finals. The Bulldawgs also got a third from Sam Twombly (152) and fourth from Colby Hurla (132).
The Rossville team placed eighth out of the thirty three teams competing in the Sub-State on Feb. 20. The top ten teams were:

The RHS boys basketball team lost to Riley Co 2/19 on the Rossville court 65-31.
