Rossville Wins Softball Regional
The Lady Dawgs soundly beat the Silver Lake Eagles in the championship game of the 3A Regional. Silver Lake had an 18-1 record going into the game. Their only loss was to Rossville. But the Lady Dawgs sent a message to the rest of the state that they are for real with a 12-3 win over the Eagles.

The RHS softball team was seeded #1 and given a first round bye in the 3A Regional at Hoyt. They then played Osage City in the quarter-final and won that game 10-0 to move into the championship game against Silver Lake who defeated St. Marys in the other semi-final game. The championship game is to be played Tue. evening, May 16.
Baseball Team Loses In Regional
The baseball team lost in the first round of the 3A Regional at Riley Co. to Riley Co. by a score of 9-3.

Kathy Ruth Johnson Obituary
Kathy Ruth Johnson was the mother of Stephen Snyder (99) who was killed recently in Topeka.
The obituary does not mention it, but the family lived in Delia and Rossville for a number of years.
Tahlequah, OK - Kathy Ruth Johnson, 57, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 24, 2012.
A private graveside service will take place for Kathy Ruth Johnson in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on May 1, 2012, at 11:00am. Arrangements are under the direction of Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah, OK.
She was born December 3, 1954, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the daughter of Kermit and Pauline Clark. Kathy was known as a positive, loving woman with a huge heart for her family, those less fortunate, and the many animals she adopted throughout her life. She enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors, cooking for her family, her houseplants, sewing, cross-stitching, and making rag rugs. Her kids and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she identified herself as Grandma Kathy in her final years.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Johnson, and by her father, Kermit Clark. Survivors include her children, Jessica A. Anderson and husband Joe, Oskaloosa, KS; Stephen M. Snyder and wife Megan, Topeka, KS; and Jason D. Snyder and fianc Tonya, Kansas City, MO; her beloved grandchildren, Michaela, Kaiden, Landon, Clayton, and Jaylon; and her basset hound, Molly. TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Visitation and funeral services have been scheduled for a 36-year-old Topeka man killed earlier this week in a shooting in southwest Topeka.
According to Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, visitation for Stephen Snyder will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Christian Church located at 1880 SW Gage Boulevard. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Cremation will follow the service.
hawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay charged Anthony Darcy on Wednesday with murder in the first degree in the death of Snyder. Darcy was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault related to an 8-year-old child that was present during the deadly shooting.
Topeka Police said Darcy shot and killed Snyder Monday evening in the area of SW 33rd and Oakley Avenue. Darcy called and reported the shooting to police where he was then later taken into custody and booked into jail.
At his first court appearance on Tuesday a bond set at $1 million.
According to his obituary, Snyder was born in Kirksville, Missouri and graduated from Rossville High School in 1999. He worked for Winston Brown Construction for five years as a lead carpenter. He currently worked for Kansas Rebuilders LLC and was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of the Shriner’s.
“Stephen loved and adored his son and was a proud father. He loved coaching his son in wrestling, football, baseball, and basketball. Stephen was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Stephen was a compassionate, loving, respectful individual, whose smile could light up a room. Among other things, he enjoyed smoking meat, spending time with family and friends, and yearly family vacations.”

All Mid-East League Golfers
Four members of the RHS Boys golf team were named All Mid-East League. Fred Schuler, Andrew Hudson, Trey Anderson, and Cory Hadsall were all in the top 8 at the Mid East League tournament. Nathan Dohrman just missed the honor as he was 9th just one stroke behind Cory.

Two Semis Collide Near Rossville
Two semis collided going westbound on Highway 24 near Rossville about 8:00 PM on Monday night. The driver of one of the semis slowed down for an unknown reason and the second driver could not stop in time.
The driver in the front vehicle was injured and taken to St. Francis Hospital. Investigators say it is unclear whether the driver was wearing a seatbelt
