Alex Bird Wins In W.U. Fun Run

    Alex Bird of Rossville won the 13-19 age group at the Washburn Univerity Alumni Fun Run on Sept. 28.

Dawgs Lose to Riley Co. in Volleyball

    In a Mid-East match-up,  Riley County defeated Rossville 25-18, 25-13 and then 25-16, 25-21 on Oct. 1.  The Dawgs are 0-4 in league play and 4-11 overall.

Girls Cross Country at Royal Valley Meet

    The RHS girls teamed up with the St. Marys girls and competed in the Royal Valley cross country meet on Sept. 26 as Kaw Valley Schools.    With only three runners competing, Kaw Valley did not compete as a team.   As individuals,  the following Kaw Valley runners and their placing were:

Boys Cross Country at Royal Valley

    The RHS Boys teamed up with the St. Marys boys and competed in the Royal Valley cross country meet on Sept. 26 as Kaw Valley Schools.    They finished 4th out of 7 teams competing.

Jessi Welch Passes Away

   

    Jessi Welch, age 13, of Delia, passed away September 25, 2013.
    She was born August 24, 2000 to Rocky Sr. and Billie (Smith) Welch. She attended Rossville Junior High School where she was looking forward to becoming a member of the Art Club.
    Jessi loved horseback riding, she loved to read, draw and listen to music. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, spending time outdoors, and taking care of animals, especially her dog Duke. Jessi loved to cook especially with shrimp. She loved angel wings and her favorite flower was the stargazer lily. She had a wonderful sense of humor and cherished the nickname given to her by her family “Pork Chop”.
    She is preceded in death by her grandparents Bill Smith and Twila Fountaine, uncle Mike Frantz, and aunt Brenda Roberts. She is survived by her parents, brothers; Brian Pilarz, John Rath, and Rocky Welch Jr., sisters; Barbara Rath, Roxy (Randy) Acker, Michelle Welch, Krystal Welch, and Jessica Haskins, grandmother Judy Smith, aunts; Donna Meyer, Tina (Scott) Barnes, and Scarlett Pratt, uncles Scott (Stacy) Smith, and Ray Terry. She was also loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
    Visitation will be Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 3-6 PM, with a funeral following at 6 PM at Davidson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be sent to Davidson Funeral Home to assist the family with services. A full obituary can be read and online condolences can be left at

    For the first time in this season,  The Rossville football team has broken into the Top 5 in the Capital-Journal 3A rankings.    Silver Lake has remained in the #1 spot  all four weeks. (Previous week's ranking in parenthesis)

Buhler (11) Leads Washburn U. To Win.

    The No. 18 and undefeated Washburn Ichabods trailed for the first time this season but turned a half time 7-7 tie into a 28-19 win with a big second half rally over Central Oklahoma.
    Mitch Buhler finished with 349 yards passing going 17 of 29 with one interception and two touchdown passes.

Haley Kelley (13) Grand Champion at State Fair


    Haley Kelley, of Rossville, and Luke Garrison, of Auburn, received Grand Champion awards in their divisions in the Clothing Buymanship Fashion Revue at the 2013 Kansas State Fair earlier this month, according to a news release.
    They were judged on their modeling skills, the fit of the garment, knowledge of cost per wear and an interview.
    They were awarded $250 scholarships and silver engraved trophy plates.
    Haley is member of Rossville Rustlers 4-H Club and is a freshmen at Kansas State University.

Rossville Downs Winless Riley County

     On Friday night the Dawgs relied primarily on a rushing attack to take care of business against the Riley County eleven who have not picked up a win thus far this year.  Tucker Horak carried  21 times for 277 yards and 5 TDs.  He was 10 of 15 for 157 yards passing.

3A High School Classification

    The high school classifications for 2013-2014, and also  football for years through 2015 have been released.  All Mid-East League schools remain in 3A though Wabaunsee barely made the cut being the smallest of the 3A schools at 156.   The largest is Cheney at 238.   Following is the complete list.
