RHS Girls Split With Rock Creek

The RHS Girls split their double header with Rock Creek on May 13, winning the first 13-5 and losing the second 8-5.

Game One

Rock Creek         2  0  0  0  1  1  1       5   10   5
Rossville             0  8  2  0  1  2  -       13   16   2

Lauren Steckel and Hailey Dick each had two hits and Hailey had two RBIs.
Taylor Kirk also had two RBIs.

Taylor Kirk pitched all seven innings getting four strike-outs.

Game Two

Rossville             2  0  1  0  0  0  2      5   11    3

Taylor Kirk led the offense getting three RBIs on three hits.

Taylor pitched 5 1/3 innings and Darian Grimmett pitched 1 2/3 innings.

Rock Creek Gets Two Baseball Wins

The Dawgs entertained Rock Creek on May 13, but lost both ends of the double header.

Game One

The Dawgs lead at the end of five innings 5-4,  but a  Rock Creek four  run 6th  inning  left them short at the end of 7 innings.

Corbin Horak had two RBIs and one run on two ground-outs, a fielders choice, and a walk.
Christian Roduner also had two RBIs on a single and a ground-out.
Tucker Horak had two singles, a fielders choice and a hit by pitch allowing him to score two runs,  but getting no RBIs.

Tucker Horak pitched five innings allowing eight hits, four earned runs, and getting 9 strike-outs.
Thatcher Horak put in two innings on the mound allowing five hits, four earned runs and getting three strike-outs.

Game Two

The Dawgs had a problem getting their bats to connect with the ball, getting just 5 singles scattered over the innings.  An unusual six errors committed by the Dawgs also hurt,  but Rock Creek getting eleven hits to go with the errors meant the Dawgs were doomed resulting in a 6-1 loss

Nick Reesor led the offense with three of the five team singles resulting in the one RBI.
Devin Morris also had one single.
Tucker Horak added one single and a walk and scored the only run.

Ethan Woodcock pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up ten hits, four earned runs, one walk and getting one strike-out.
Marcus Catron pitched the final 1 1/2 inning allowing one hit, no runs and getting three strike-outs.  Marcus leaded the team with the lowest ERA of .84 after 25 innings.

New Virus Threat to Google Users

There’s a dangerous new threat that’s trying to steal your Google password. If you fall for it,  hackers will have full access to your Gmail account, YouTube account, Google+ account,  Google Search, and any other Google services you use.  From there, they can break try to break into other similar accounts, like Facebook, or pretend to be you to trick your friends and family into giving away important information. So, you definitely don’t want to fall for this one.
The threat arrives in the form of an email, supposedly from Google. The subject line varies, but it’s some form of “Mail Notice” or “Lookout Notice.”
The body of the email says this:
GOOGLE MAIL NOTICE
This is a reminder that your email account will be locked out in 24hours
Due to not being able to increase your Email storage Quota
Go to the INSTANT INCREASE to increase your Email storage automatically. INSTANT INCREASE

Three Dawgs at Washburn U. Football

    The Washburn University Spring Football roster lists three Dawgs on the squad.

Riley County Inv. Track & Field

    The RHS track team competed in the Riley County Invitational as part of the Kaw Valley team on May 9.  Both the girls team and boys team finished eighth out of twelve teams competing.
    Zhaquarius Miller was top Dawg in the competition finishing third in both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash.  Clayton Rubio also placed high in two events, getting a fourth place finish in both the 800 meter run and the 3200 meter run.

Elizabeth Ellen Randall Passes Away

    Services will be Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dover Federated Church for Elizabeth Ellen Randall, 99, of Aldersgate Village, who died Sunday May 11th. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at the church.
    Ellen was born March 21, 1915 northwest of Dover to Edwin and Ann Scott Sage. Ellen attended Dover schools graduating from Dover Rural High School in 1932. She attended Kansas Normal School in Emporia and Kansas State College in Manhattan.
    Ellen was a member of the Rossville American Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekah and Eastern Star organizations. She was a lifetime member of the Dover Federated Church where she was a member of the Board for several years.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Federated Church, the Dover Community Foundation or TARC and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

Baseball Team Stat Leaders

    The RHS baseball team has an outstanding season thus far puting up lots of points with several players doing well offensively.  Through May 9, the leading batting averages are:  Marcus Catron .540, Zach Nitsch .465, Devin Morris .439, Jack Steckel .400, Tucker Horak .391, Colby Horak .385.
    Keeping the other team from scoring has also been a strong point for the Dawgs who have an outstanding  pitching staff.  Marcus Catron has pitched 25 innings and allowed only three earned runs.  Zach Nitsch has pitched 26 innings and allowed five earned runs for a 1.42 ERA.  Ethan Woodcock has pitched 16 innings allowing five earned runs for a 2.34 ERA.    Tucker Horak has pitched 16 innings allowing zero runs for a 0.00 ERA.

Softball Team Stat Leader

    Taylor Kirk dominates the Rossville High softball team stats.   She has a team leading .560 batting average with 7 home runs and 11 stolen bases.   As a pitcher,  she has 8 wins and a 2.90 ERA, striking out 81 batters this season.

Perry Lecompton Golf Tourney

      The Dawgs participated in the Perry-Lecompton Invitational on May 9 and finished in a tie for fifth out of thirteen teams competing.   Colby Hadsall was one of four players who turned in a tournament best card of only three over par, which resulted in a tie breaker second place finish for him.

Women On A Porch A Century Ago


     This is a picture of a group of women on a porch, Rossville, Kansas that is a part of the Rossville Community Library's "Memory" project. 
     Pictured left to right on the porch front are Beulah McIntyre, Grace White, Gwen Kramer, Mable Bruce, and Mildred McCollough.
    The date of the photo is estimated to be 1880-1910.
    Anyone having additional information,  such as where the house is located,  please send an e-mail.  

Sotball Team Adds Two Wins

    The RHS softball team added wins of 3-1 and 7-1 against Marysville on May 8.

Dawgs Win Two at Nemaha Valley (Updated)

    The Rossville High baseball team picked up a couple easy wins at Nemaha Valley on May 8.

FIRST GAME:

    The Dawgs offensive leader was Nick Reesor who picked up four RBIs and two runs on two singles and a sacrifice fly.
    Tucker Horak had one RBI and two runs on a double, a single, and a sacrifice bunt.
    Zach Nitsch had one RBI and one run on two singles.
    Marcus Catron had one RBI and 2 runs on a single and two walks.

SECOND GAME:

    The Dawgs won the second game 16-3.

    Marcus Catron had three RBIs on two singles.
    Nick Reesor had three RBIs on a double and a single.
    Christian Rodunner had three RBIs on a single and also reached base on a walk and Hit By Pitch
    Devin Morris gets the Sharp Eye award garnering four walks along with one single which netted two RBIs and four runs scored.
    Thatcher Horak also picked up two RBIs on two singles.
    Corbin Horak reach base four times on two singles, a walk, and a Hit By Pitch which allowed him to score two runs and pick up one RBI.

    The RHS baseball team has a 15-1 record to this point of the season.

Thora (Parr) Stadler Passes Away

Thora Vivian Parr Stadler, 95, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Rossville Healthcare and Rehab Center.
 She was born December 31, 1918 at Rossville, the daughter of Shirley O. and Edna James Parr.  Mrs. Stadler attended all 12 grades of school in Rossville.
 She was united in marriage to George Stadler on May 6, 1939.  They moved to Bremerton, WA. In 1945 they returned to Rossville and farmed for 16 years.  She then worked as a bookkeeper for Rossville Truck & Tractor for 20 years until her retirement.  She moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1991, then to Tucson.  Mrs. Stadler moved to Alamogordo, NM, in 2004 where she lived with her daughter Rose and her husband Fred Brown.  She moved to Wamego in 2006 where she lived until entering Rossville Manor.  Mrs. Stadler was a lifetime member of the Rossville Christian Church.
 Mrs. Stadler was preceded in death by her husband George on September 17, 2004.  She was also preceded in death by infant twin daughters and a daughter, Helen Huffman on July 26, 2006.
 Survivors include two sons, David G. (Phyllis) Stadler, Rossville, and James P. (Warrene) Stadler, Silver Lake; a daughter, Rose M. (Fred) Brown, Topeka; two sisters, Shirley Maxine Stadler, Yakima, WA, and Thelma Martin, Topeka; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
 Memorial Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Rossville Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Christian Church or Grace Hospice and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 642, Rossville, Kansas 66533.

Rossville Invitational Golf Tourney

    The RHS boys golf team finished 5th at the Rossville Invitational held May 6 at the St. Marys Golf Club.  Davis Warton led the team with an 86 which was good for 7th place overall.  Gabe Marney's 88 was good for 13th place overall and Colby Hadsall's 91 was good for 14th.
