Homecoming Week

  • Homecoming Week is the week of September 21-25. The theme is “There is No Place Like Homecoming.” Activities on homecoming Friday include a Lip Dub, picture of all the students in DAWG formation on the football field, Powder Puff football game, pep rally and parade. The Dawgs play Riley County that night and the crowning will take place prior to the start of the game.

RHS Band At KSU Band Day

    The Rossville Senior High  Band will be headed to K-State for the annual "Band Day" event this coming Sat., Sept. 19.     The parade has been cancelled due to construction, but the RSHS band  will still be on the football field playing with all of the other area bands at halftime.
    The game against La. Tech.  is scheduled for a 3 PM start.

Manhattan Triangular Volleyball

    The RHS volleyball team competed in the Manhattan Triangular on Tues.  They lost to Manhattan in the first match 8-25, 20-25.  The kept the second match with Clay Center closer losing by scores of 16-25, 25-19, 18-25.

Kaw Valley CC Team At Wamego

    The Kaw Valley cross country team competed at the  Wamego Invitational on Sept. 12.  
    The boys team was 11th of 17 teams.  No one from the Kaw Valley team was in the top 10.
    The girls team was 6th of 11 teams.  The only Kaw Valley runner in the top ten was Hurla.

Jessie Mick (03) Passes Away

       Jessie Clay Mick, 30, of Rossville, KS, formerly of Holton, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family; after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 19, 1985 in Onaga, the son of Dennis Adair Mick and Patrick David and Mary Ruth (Noland) Johnson.
      Jessie attended Central School in Holton. He also attended Rossville Grade School and graduated from Rossville High School in 2003. He attended Tarc during the day, from age 16 to 26, he then moved to supportive living day service from age 16 to 28. Jessie had worked for Tarc-Ties doing general duties.
      Jessie attended Rossville United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Special Olympics, participating in bowling and track.
      Survivors include his father and mother, Patrick and Mary Johnson of Rossville; a sister, Kelly Mick of Wichita; 2 brothers, Daniel Johnson (Amber) and Jared Johnson (Lannie) both of Topeka; paternal grandparents, Dean and Mary Mick of Holton and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Adair Mick in 1993; maternal grandparents, Boyd and Opal Noland; paternal grandmother, Marie Leach and grandparents, Fred and DeElla Johnson

RHS Girls Golf Team Gets Second

    The Lady ?Dawgs finished second at the West Franklin Invitational golf tournament at Lamont Hill led by Emily Woodcock's first place on Sept 10.

#1 ROSSVILLE (2-0)
Last: blasted Wabaunsee 61-3Rossville scored 29 first-quarter points in rolling past Wabaunsee 61-3 in Mid-East League action. Quarterback Tucker Horak completed all eight of his passes for 144 yards and two scores and rushed for 38 yards and a score. Cole Schumacher had five receptions for 78 yards and two scores. Dawson Hammes carried five times for 84 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldawgs.

#2 SCOTT CITY (2-0)
Last: beat Colby 35-6Scott City built a 35-0 halftime lead en route to a 35-6 win over Colby. Quarterback Bo Hess completed 12 of 22 passes for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Hess also added a touchdown rushing in the game. Drake McRae caught eight passes for 114 yards and a score for Scott City. Cooper Griffith led the Beavers with 105 yards rushing on 12 carries. Wyatt Kropp added 55 yards rushing and a touchdown.

#3 WICHITA COLLEGIATE (2-0)
Last: blasted Towanda-Circle 77-0Collegiate raced out to 42 first-quarter points in blowing out Circle. Quarterback Austin Waddell passed for 132 yards and nine different Spartans scored on the night. The competition tightens up this week when the Spartans host defending 4A-II champion Andale.

#4 HALSTEAD (2-0)
Last: beat Hesston 18-6Halstead used a relentless rushing attack to top Hesston for only the second time in the past eight meetings. The Dragons rushed for more than 325 yards in the 18-6 victory over the Swathers. Blake Beckett rushed for more than 120 yards and two touchdowns for Halstead.

#5 SILVER LAKE (2-0)
Last: defeated Perry-Lecompton 39-38 in overtimeSilver Lake once again survived overtime by beating Perry-Lecompton, 39-38. Silver Lake led 21-6 at halftime, but the Kaws rallied to within 24-14 after three quarters and scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Perry-Lecompton scored first in overtime to lead 38-32, but failed to connect on a two-point conversion pass. Silver Lake responded with a touchdown pass from Dalton Dultmeier to Ryan Wagner on the first play of their overtime possession. The Eagles added the PAT with no problem to win 39-38.
