Dudley Fryman (62) Passes Away

Dudley J. Fryman, 72, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born June 22, 1944 in Topeka, KS to Jess and Maxine (Marney) Fryman. The family moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1947 and he spent his childhood through age 15 there until the family returned to Rossville, KS where he then finished high school.
After high school, Dudley attended Fort Hays State Teachers College in Hays, KS where he majored in Physical Science and played for the Fort Hays State Division II football team. He graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor’s of Science and a Master’s of Science in 1976.
Dudley spent 40 years as an educator in the state of Kansas. He began his career in McCracken, KS teaching high school science including General science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. After two years, he moved to Paola, KS where he taught science at Paola Middle School for two years and then transferred to Shawnee Mission School District where he spent two years teaching at Milburn Junior High School. In 1974, Dudley joined the western Kansas community of Garden City and continued his career with USD 457. He spent the next 31 years serving the community as a physical science and math teacher at both Abe Hubert and Kenneth Henderson. In addition to his classroom duties, Dudley coached football, basketball, track and baseball as well as sponsoring numerous activities and groups including Science Olympiad. He served as the District Science Fair coordinator as well as Science Curriculum Department Head. After retiring from USD 457 in 2005, Dudley wasn’t quite done with the classroom and moved to Ingalls High School where he taught General Science and Biology until fully retiring from education in 2008.
Dudley was a member of professional organizations including Garden City Educators Association (GCEA), Kansas National Educators Association (KNEA), National Education Association (NEA), and Kansas Association for Teachers of Science (KATS) where he held the office of President.
Outside of education, he was a member of Kansas Western Horsemen Association (KWHA). He served as parent, board member, judge, and two terms as President in the early 1980’s. He continued to follow his children’s interests by coaching in Garden City baseball leagues from 1992-2002.
In retirement, he found enjoyment in photography and combined it frequently with his avid love of fishing always coming home with more photos than fish. He was a proud supporter of area parks and facilities. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He married Pansy Callaway in 1968 at Protection, KS.
Survivors include his wife of the home, daughter Sherry Robertson of Elkhart, KS; daughter Lynnlea Anderson (Jason) of Garden City, KS; son Kirby Fryman (Ashley) of Wichita, KS; and son Kenyon Fryman of Wheat Ridge, CO. Grandchildren include Rhett and Shea Robertson; Rylan and Brody Anderson; Hudson, Weston, and Colton Fryman. He is also survived by nieces, a nephew, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and sister.
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 18th at the First United Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to FHSU Foundation with Kansas Wetlands Education Center (KWEC) listed in the memo in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home 620 N. Main St. Garden City, Kansas 67846.

Eva (Davis) (38) Graves Passes Away

Eva Louise Graves, 96, of Brunswick, OH, died Friday, February 3, 2017, at Plum Creek Senior Living. She was born September 20, 1920, the daughter of Denny Morgan and Grace Lucinda (Alexander) Davis.    She graduated from Rossville High School in 1938


Surviviors include her husband, Corbin H. Graves, of the home.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Rossville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, Thursday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka.

Charles Martin (46) Passed Away(U[dated)

      Charles Charlie Martin Charles Charlie Martin, 88, of Silver Lake, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 10, 2017.
      He was born December 11, 1928, on a farm in Willard, KS, one of ten children of Henry Martin and Edith Burns. He attended Rossville High School. Charlie was a Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion and the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, and enjoyed many outdoor activities. In the early days he coached the girls softball teams, enjoyed fishing, camping and skiing at the lakes. He so enjoyed being with his family, playing cards, and watching grandkids sports.
       Charlie married Mary Krasny on August 30, 1951. He worked on the family farm and retired from Goodyear after 37 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his sister, Betty Gibson, and his four girls : Peggy, Karen, Diane and Nancy, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father, and excelled at being a grandfather.
      A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday February 13, 2017 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka. A visitation will be held at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, 708 Citizen Cir, Rossville, from 3:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, February 12, 2017. Memorial contributions may be made to the Silver Lake Senior Center or Midland Hospice and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536. Andrew Day (14) Passes Away


Airman First Class Andrew T. Day, 21, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Rossville.
He was born December 20, 1995 at Topeka, the son of Timothy E. and Angela Renee Irwin Day.  Andrew was raised in the Rossville community and graduated from Rossville High School.
Andrew joined the United States Air Force in 2014 and was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita.  He had been deployed to Qatar from May 23 until October 3, 2016.  He was a very active student in high school; participating in Cross Country, Basketball, school plays, band, drumline, FCCLA and many more activities.  He was currently attending WSU.
Andrew accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age.  He was a strong Christian.  Andrew was a member of the First Baptist Church in Silver Lake.  He was a youth group leader at both the First Baptist Church and the Rossville Christian Church. He enjoyed being a part of Vacation Bible School at both churches.  He loved to listen to K-Love.  Andrew touched many hearts without knowing it.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Kathleen Day, Harold Eugene Irwin and Margaret Ruckman.
Survivors include his parents, Tim and Angel Day, Rossville; his brother, Tyler (Cheyanne) Day, stationed at Schofield Army Base, HI; his sister Rachel Day, in Bootcamp at Lackland AFB, TX; a grandfather Douglas Day, Kennewick, WA; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 10, 2017 at the First Baptist Church (north campus) at Silver Lake.  Military graveside services will be at the Rossville Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
