Arrest By Rossville Police

From The Rossville Police Department:

December 31st, 2019 just after 6pm at US 24 Highway & Main Street in Rossville: The on-duty Rossville Officer noticed a vehicle with an expired tag at a local convenience store. A short time later, an employee of the store told the officer the occupants had been acting strangely and were waiting for the police to leave. The vehicle left the store eastbound at a rapid pace. The officer pursued and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was a registered sex offender who had a suspended license, no registration, was illegally using the previous owners tag, and had no insurance. The passenger gave a false name and was very nervous. A plainclothes Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped and stood by with the Rossville Officer until the arrival of a Shawnee County Sheriff’s Deputy that had been called for backup. Investigation revealed the passenger to be a parole absconder with an active felony warrant originally stemming from felony narcotics cases. Electronic drug measuring scales, drug paraphernalia used to inject intravenous narcotics, and paraphernalia used to smoke narcotics were all discovered. The passenger was arrested and transported to the Shawnee County Jail. The contraband was seized. After the evidence is tested at the KBI Forensics Laboratory, the case will be forwarded to the Shawnee County District Attorney for consideration of prosecution of multiple charges for both suspects. The vehicle was impounded, towed from the scene, and is being held for the legally registered owner. The Rossville Police Department wishes to thank the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol for their assistance with this incident.
