TOPEKA, KS - The Mid-Plains League is proud to announce the addition of two new teams for the upcoming 2016 summer collegiate season.

The league welcomes in the Independence (Mo.) Veterans and the Sabetha (Ks.) Lobos.

"Each year we try to evaluate possible expansion opportunities to grow our league," said League Commissioner David Streeter. "We feel these two markets will add a lot of excitement to the league,"

The League is working on its 2016 schedule and anticipates that being released later in the fall. Planned events this summer are the 2016 All-Star Game as well as the league's Rising Stars Showcase. The Rising Stars Showcase allows Junior College players to participate in a combine-style showcase in front of coaches from four-year schools.

"The Mid-Plains League strives to be one of the top summer collegiate leagues in the Midwest and will continue to be an excellent place for players to grow during the summer."

About the Independence Veterans: The city of Independence, Missouri possesses a rich baseball history and due to this fact, the Veterans organization intends to inject both pride and enthusiasm into the community. The team is proud to call historic Crysler Stadium home. Crysler has a history of its own and will serve as an outstanding venue for the Veterans home games.

Our nation's heroes, our military veterans, will be honored during each home game. The Veterans will strive to provide the community with quality baseball entertainment while at the same time offering a family friendly atmosphere, one that the community can be extremely proud of.

About the Sabetha Lobos: The Lobos were established in 2010 as the Puerto Rico Collegiate Baseball Club. Their mission is to help Puerto Rican high school/college prospects gain exposure and develop their skills to the fullest to continue their baseball careers. The Lobos want to continue development by joining the Mid-Plains League to give their prospects more visibility and an avenue to the next level in baseball.

The Lobos are ready to go and are excited to have a chance to be part of the Mid-Plains League and call Sabetha home. Somerset Park is one of the newest venues in the league. Built in 2007 and will be an excellent fit within the league.

About the Mid-Plains League: 2016 will mark the third year of existence for the league, boasting eight-teams from Kansas and Missouri. The league strives to provide the best opportunity for their players to excel on and off the field. 10 Mid-Plains League players have been drafted by Major League teams as well as 6 former MPLers that are currently playing in affiliated Minor League Baseball. The league also provides excellent exposure for Junior College players looking to make the leap to four-year schools.
