George Rees Passes Away


HOLTON- George R. Rees, 88, of Holton, KS, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Holton Community Hospital. He was born November 28, 1930 in Grantville, KS, the son of Harry F. and Nellie F. (Shope) Rees.
 George graduated from Perry High School in 1948. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer and stockman and worked for Goodyear Tire Company for over 33 years; retiring in 1987. He lived in the Holton community since 2005, in Delia from 1971 – 2005 and Grantville.
 He was a member of the Grantville United Methodist Church, United Steelworkers Local #307 and the American Legion Post 31 in Rossville.
George married Dana Fern Culp on September 30, 1956 in Ness County, KS. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2008, celebrating over 52 years of marriage. He was also preceded by a son, Lloyd Culp in 2005; a grandson, George Henry Culp in 1989; a sister, Betty Rees in 1944 and 2 brothers, Roy Rees in 2012 and Glenn Rees in 2014.
 Survivors include his daughter, Ginny Robinson of Holton, KS; 6 grandchildren, Stormy Culp (Jessica) of Silver Plume, CO, Becka Whitney (Darrell) of Cypress, TX and Ben Culp of Silver Plume, CO, Sharon Iverson (Doug), Susan Baum (Scott) and Michael Robinson all of Holton, KS; 19 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and 2 on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
 Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Holton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to EUM Church or Grantville United Methodist Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
