SILVER
LAKE: Given that he’s Silver Lake’s leading
scorer, it wasn’t a shock to see Dillon Byrne have a big game Tuesday night.
But with second-leading scorer Mason Griffin
sidelined with the flu, Byrne felt the need to pick up his scoring even more.
“I talked to Mason today and he said, ‘Hey,
you need to step up tonight,’ ” Byrne said. “We’ve both been up there scoring
all year, but that’s what I knew I had to do. But I didn’t think I’d come out
and shoot like that.”
Byrne stepped up big indeed. After missing
his first shot of the game, Byrne made his next six. All of those were in the
first quarter and four were from 3-point range as the senior forward scored 18
straight points in the quarter to help the Eagles open up a 22-15 lead.
Byrne never really slowed down, finishing 14
of 20 from the field overall, 4 of 5 from three and 3 of 3 at the free-throw
line for a career-best 35-point night, leading Silver Lake to the blowout win.
