RHS Boys Lose To Silver Lake 76-33.
The Dawgs were totally out manned at Silver Lake on Dec. 18, losing by 76-33.
The first quarter score was 22-15 in favor of the Eagles. They upped their lead to 38-23 after 2 periods and 61-28 after a 23 point third period. The final score was 76-33.
From the Capital-Journal:
“I hit that first shot and I was feeling it,” said Byrne, whose previous high
was 34 last year against Wabaunsee. “When I hit that second one, I was like,
‘Well, this is going to work out.’ I got to the rim and got my teammates some
open looks too.”
Silver Lake finished 30 of 46 from the field as a team and Walker Moore added
11 for the Eagles (4-1, 2-1). Taegan Sumner led Rossville with 16 points.
The first quarter score was 22-15 in favor of the Eagles. They upped their lead to 38-23 after 2 periods and 61-28 after a 23 point third period. The final score was 76-33.
From the Capital-Journal:
SILVER
LAKE: Given that he’s Silver Lake’s leading
scorer, it wasn’t a shock to see Dillon Byrne have a big game Tuesday night.
But with second-leading scorer Mason Griffin
sidelined with the flu, Byrne felt the need to pick up his scoring even more.
“I talked to Mason today and he said, ‘Hey,
you need to step up tonight,’ ” Byrne said. “We’ve both been up there scoring
all year, but that’s what I knew I had to do. But I didn’t think I’d come out
and shoot like that.”
Byrne stepped up big indeed. After missing
his first shot of the game, Byrne made his next six. All of those were in the
first quarter and four were from 3-point range as the senior forward scored 18
straight points in the quarter to help the Eagles open up a 22-15 lead.
Byrne never really slowed down, finishing 14
of 20 from the field overall, 4 of 5 from three and 3 of 3 at the free-throw
line for a career-best 35-point night, leading Silver Lake to the blowout win.

RHS Girls Lose To Silver Lake 43-28.
The Rossville girls lost at Silver Lake on Dec. 18. The first half was pretty even as the lead went back and forth, but the Eagles outscored the Dawgs 12-2 in the third period to pull away.
After 1 quarter, the Eagles led 8-6
After 2 quarters, the Eagles led 20-18
After 3 quarters, the Eagles led 32-20
At the end of the game, the Eagles were up 43-28.
From the Capital-Journal:

After 1 quarter, the Eagles led 8-6
After 2 quarters, the Eagles led 20-18
After 3 quarters, the Eagles led 32-20
At the end of the game, the Eagles were up 43-28.
From the Capital-Journal:
SILVER LAKE — There wasn’t anything glamorous about Silver Lake’s 43-28 girls victory over arch rival Rossville at home on Tuesday night.
But the manner in which the Eagles secured
the victory — tough rebounding, solid free-throw shooting and a strong defense
— sure was a thing of beauty in the eyes of Eagle coach Loren Ziegler.
“We struggled shooting the ball tonight ...
but I love how we compete,” Ziegler said. “We’re playing as hard as we can and
it’s not always pretty, but we’re rebounding, we’re defending and tonight we
made our free throws. We’re doing a lot of the little things we need to do to
win.”
Silver Lake’s defense was at its best in the
third quarter. After Caila Hill scored in the the first 1:15 of the second half
to tie the game 20-20, the Eagles’ zone defense clamped down.
Rossville went scoreless for the rest of the
quarter and didn’t make another field goal until Hill scored at the 4:38 mark
of the fourth quarter. By that time, the Eagles had opened up a double-digit
lead, closing the third quarter on a 12-0 run.
Silver Lake only made two field goals in the
quarter, but hit 7 of 8 free throws in the period. On the night, the Eagles
were 24 of 31 overall, masking a rough shooting night from the field where they
made just 9 of 32 shots overall and 1 of 13 3-pointers.
Silver Lake also out-rebounded Rossville
29-13, getting 10 offensive boards.
Daryn Lamprecht led Silver Lake (3-2
overall, 2-1 in Mid-East League play) with 12 points and eight rebounds, while
Jayme Lindstrom added 11 points.
Hill led Rossville (2-4, 0-1) with 10 points
and the Bulldawgs were just 12 of 35 from the field and 4 of 15 at the free
throw line.
