Lady Dawgs Add Two More At Wamego
The Defending 3A State Champions Rossville softball team defeated defending 4A 2013 State Champs Wamego twice on April 29. The first game was 2-0 and the second was 10-0.

Briar Gillum Records NCAA Qualifying Marks

- Briar Gillum took 1st in the event, recording an NCAA qualifying toss of 46.85m. Aubrey Skinner took 7th, throwing a mark of 39.85m.

Camden Horak struck out 13 batters in The Dawgs 3-0 win over Silver Lake on April 8.

Victoria Vande Velde Passes Away (updated)
Victoria A. Vande Velde, fondly known as Vicki, departed from this world on April 13, 2024, in Topeka, KS, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, cherished memories and was reunited with her husband, Kenny and daughter, Kimmy.
Born on March 7, 1947, in Kansas City, KS, Vicki led a remarkable life that touched the hearts of many. She was a paraprofessional with USD 321, a district supervisor at Casey's General Store, and a clerical assistant for Carpenter Chartered Law Firm in Topeka. However, her most beloved role was as a "granny nanny," which brought her immense joy.

Baseball At St. Marys
The Dawgs added two more baseball wins on April 11 at St. Marys. The scores were 14-4 and 13-0 with the Dawgs now leading the MEL at 8-0 and an overall record of 8-2.

Eagles Show Power Over Lady Dawgs

Lyman Boursaw Passes Away
Lyman E. Boursaw, Jr., 91, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. Lyman was born at home on June 4, 1932, in Topeka, the son of Lyman, Sr. and Grace (Delk) Boursaw. He was a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN) and his Native American name was Shabbona. Lyman grew up in Topeka and he attended Highland Park schools from Kindergarten through High School, where he played football and basketball and was in the band. He then attended Washburn University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Lyman served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. After his discharge, Lyman held several positions with life insurance companies, followed by being a partner in Met-Con Products in Topeka. Later, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail routing machine operator and trainer. In 2005, he was asked by the CPN Chairman to be part of the team that designed and later oversaw the construction of the CPN Community Center in Rossville KS. This was followed by the construction of ten duplexes located near the center. Lyman served as the CPN Housing Manager in Rossville since 2007. Lyman enjoyed listening to jazz music and dancing to the sounds of the big bands. An avid golfer, Lyman played countless rounds of golf and bad weather was never a deterrent, as evidenced by playing in a snowstorm in August in Canada with his brother, Jon.
Lyman is survived by his daughter, Nicole Boursaw Lux (Tony) of Shawnee KS; grandchildren, Mallory and Wyatt; and his brother, Jon Boursaw (Peggy) of Topeka.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in the CPN Community Center, 806 Nishnabe Trail, in Rossville at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024. Native and casual attire is acceptable.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TOP City Supports Ukraine and sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Condolences may be sent online to www.kevinbrennanfamily.com.

The Lady Dawgs picked up two lop-sided wins against Wabaunsee on April 5. Both games were 18-0. Rossville is 2-0 in the MEL and 7-1 overall.

Lloyd Hanson Passes Away
Lloyd L. Hanson of Rossville, Kansas, passed away at the age of 84, on March 16, 2024.
He was predeceased by : his parents, Harry C. Hanson and Ruth F. Hanson (Dunstan); and his brother Wayne Hanson. He is survived by : his wife Mary Hanson; his children, Marshall Hanson (Cindy), Crystal Brenneman (Robert), Kathie Smith (Stephen) and Carmen Weyrauch (Dennis); and his grandchildren, Jeremy Brenneman (Stephanie), Jeff Smith, Angelia Burkhart (Phil), Ginger Jahr (Keil), Christy Hanson, Darin Brenneman, Ashley Hanson (Donnie), Brittany Stilley (Jeff), Myranda Lowe (Michael), Breanna Dowd (Rustin), Megan Laird (Caleb), Tori Smith, Brian Hanson (Josie), Brady Weyrauch (Leighann) and Tanner Weyrauch. He is also survived by 35 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 13th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Fairlawn Nazarene Church (730 SW Fairlawn Rd, Topeka, KS 66606).

Shirley Parison Passes Away
Shirley Irene Parison of Rossville, Kansas, born in Torrance, California, who passed away at the age of 74, on March 11, 2024.
She was predeceased by : her parents, Winifred Elizabeth Howland (Spicklemeier) and Kenneth Howland; her daughter Rita Waterman; her siblings, Faye Howland, James G., William S., Edward L. and Ronnie Howland; her great grandchildren, Jessica Parison and Chase King; and her stepfather Oscar Helstrom.
She is survived by : her children, Francis Goodwin (Mike) of Sabetha, KS, James Parison, Jr. (Amber) of Holton, KS and Thomas Parison of Holton, KS; and her siblings, Ann L. Cain of Topeka, KS, Kenneth Howland (Diane) of Burlingame, KS and David Howland (Debbie) of Topeka, KS. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Friday, March 22nd 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Mercer Funeral Home (1101 W 4th St, Holton, KS 66436).
