John and Jeline (Kelsey) Retiring From Teaching
Teachers John and Jeline (Kelsey) Harclerode are ending their careers in the Emporia school district just as they began: together.
Jeline’s retirement will begin at the end of this semester, which also will be John’s last day at Emporia High School. However, he will go on to teach a summer course in anatomy at the Flint Hills Technical College before he formally retires on Aug. 1.
The Harclerodes have enjoyed long and notable careers since the Emporia school district hired them for their first teaching jobs for the fall semester of 1972.
They had met the previous year, after Rossville High graduate Jeline had completed her bachelor’s degree at Baker University in Baldwin City and had come to Emporia State University to earn a master’s degree in special education. John already had earned a bachelor’s degree in science education from ESU and had stayed to complete his master’s.
