Freak Accident Near Rossville

    A freak accident 1/2 mile west of Rossville resulted in minor injuries to a Belvue woman whose car was struck by a portion of the driveshaft from a pickup truck that was going in the opposite direction.   The situation could have been far worse had the driveshaft not struck the A pillar at the side of the windshied preventing it from entering the car.

Rattler TV Coverage

    The Rattlers got some TV coverage on channels 27 and 49 when they hosted the Kansas City Bandits on June 7,  which Rossville won.

    On June 13,  the Rattlers hosted arch-rival Junction City Brigade at Joe Campbell Stadium with the same result as earlier meetings in Junction City.   The Brigade overcame an early Rossville lead to go home with a 10-4 victory.

Patrick Salsbury at Marquette U.




    The 2013-14 athletic campaign at Marquette will mark the second year for Patrick Salsbury with Marquette  University in Milwaukee, Wisc.,  as a marketing and ticketing assistant.
    A 2012 graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in education and an emphasis in sport management, Salsbury was most recently serving as an intern at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. His duties included coordinating game operations for men's and women's basketball and baseball.
    The Rossville, Kansas, native also worked as a student assistant at Kansas in the ticket office for two years and was involved in every aspect of the department's day-to-day operations.

Shinn, Brecheisen, Hartshorn Make All-State

      The Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches have made their All-State Selections and three Dawgs made the First Team.  They are senior Scott Shinn, Pitcher; senior Cole Brecheisen, Outfield, and senior Taylor Hartshorn,  Designated Hitter.
      Player of the Year is Cole Brecheisen. 

Anne Cooney From St. Marys Missing

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in locating a runaway juvenile from St. Marys, Kansas.
The 17-year old is Anne Bernadette Cooney, who's reported to have left her residence in St.Marys May 31st at about 10 that morning. Cooney was last seen wearing a short pink dress. She is described as a white female, 5'10", 135 pounds, with shoulder length brown hair and has hazel eyes.
She commonly wears her hair in a braid. If you have seen Anne Bernadette Cooney or know where she may be found, please contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office or the St.Marys Police Department at (785) 437-2012.

Kirk and Brecheisen Make All-State Team

    The Kansas Association of Softball Coaches has selected their All-State softball teams.   The Dawgs,  who played in the State tournament,  had two girls selected.

    The Rattlers lost to the Topeka Golden Giants Tue. night in a 10-9 slugfest at Joe Campbell Stadium.

Rattlers BBQ & Game Tue Night

 The Rattlers want to welcome baseball fans in the Topeka area out Tuesday night, as Rossville welcomes in our rivals the Topeka Golden Giants at 7:00 PM.
 
The game marks the first visit of the Golden Giants to Rossville and it looks to be a very competitive game. The Rattlers currently sit at 2-5 on the season, while the Golden Giants are 7-5.
 
Tuesday night's game will also debut the new infield surface at Joe Campbell Memorial Stadium in Rossville. After receiving a grant from the Kansas City Royals, the City of Rossville has improved the playing surface at "The Joe". City officials and Rattlers staff will be on hand to start off the festivities.
 
There will also be a BBQ items available at the concession stand. Curt and Juli Cuthbertson of Juli's Coffee and Bistro (http://www.juliscoffeeandbistro.com/) in Topeka are putting together the BBQ offerings.

Rattlers Defeat Clearwater Cowboys

The Rossville Rattlers pulled out a win in a rain shortened game against the  Clearwater Cowboys on Sat. night.  Clearwater had five hits compared with the Rattlers' two, but the Cowboys stranded six runners on base which game the Rattlers a 2-1 win after 5 1/2 innings.
Aaron Gile had two RBIs on one hit for Rossville Rattlers homering in the fourth inning.
A.J. Doolittle got the win for the Rattlers. He allowed one run over four innings. Doolittle struck out seven, walked two and gave up four hits.   Clearwater scored its only run of the game on a solo home run by J Finley in the first inning.
Rossville next plays Tuesday night at home versus the  Topeka Golden Giants.

Rattlers Defeat K. C. Bandits

The Rossville Rattlers scored  four runs in the first inning and cruised to a  7-2 win over the Kansas City Bandits on Friday night at their first home game of the season at Joe Campbell Stadium.
Luke Bordewick reached base three times and scored 2 runs and had an RBI.
Lane Eichman picked up  the win allowing only two runs over five innings, striking out seven, walking two and allowing six hits.
The Rattlers  continue their home stand Saturday night at 7:00 PM versus the Clearwater Cowboys.

Leo Berry Passes Away


 Leo D. Berry, 83, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
He was born November 2, 1929 at Topeka, the son of Leo Daniel and Mildred Rupin Berry.  Leo grew up in the Rossville community and graduated from St. Marys High School, in 1947.  He attended Creighton University and Kansas State University and served in the United States Coast Guard.
Mr. Berry owned and operated the Berry Grain and Seed Company, Berry Fertilizer and Berry Irrigation companies for many years before selling them on July 28, 1976 and retiring.  He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville and the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Lee Berry.
Leo was united in marriage to Darlene Thompson in 1954 in Greensburg.  She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael (Cindy) Berry, Meriden, and Vincent (Stacy) Berry, Topeka; a daughter, Rhonda (Gary) Busse, Raymore, MO; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville.  Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery.  Mr. Berry will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 10, 2013 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until the rosary at 7:00 P.M.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church or Catholic Charities of North East Kansas and sent in care of the Piper Funeral Home..
