The Rattlers posted wins in the semi and final games of the NBC U19 National Championship tournament in Topeka on Thursday, July 25. In the morning, they sluggd their way to a 10-0 win in just four innings against the Wichita Sluggers. In the afternoon, they defeated defending champion Davy Jones Cardinals 8-0 in just six innings for their fifth win in a row to take the tournament championship.
Team coach Brett Cowdin has decided to retire on this very important winning occasion so that he could "go out while on top."

Rattlers Moving Up In NBC Tournament
The Rossville Rattlers are two wins away from claiming the National Baseball Congress 19U National Championship.
The Rattlers advance to the National Semi-Final game at 11:30 am Thursday morning by beating the Butler County Cubs last night 5-1. Rossville will take on the Wichita Sluggers 18 Blue team who defeated the Wichita Sluggers 17 Blue team last night 8-0.
A win for the Rattlers means they are guaranteed a spot in the National Championship game at 4:15 Thursday afternoon. If the Rattlers lose the semi-final game, they would play in the final game of the Loser Bracket at 2:00 pm. The winner of that game would then advance to the National Championship game at 4:15 pm and would have to win twice in order to claim the Championship.
Kansas State Pitcher Levi MaVorhis will get the start this morning for the Rattlers.

Old St. Stanislaus Church Torn Down
Rossville's Roman Catholic church, St. Stanislaus was torn down July 23. The previous church was built in 1899. It was enlarged a few decades ago has been replaced by a new church to the south of old one.
Opal Noland Passes Away
Opal Mae Noland, age 84, of Rossville, KS formerly of Hoyt, passed away July 22, 2013 at Plaza West Regional Health Center.
She was born November 1, 1928 in Onaga, KS the daughter of John Thomas and Ruth (Summerville) Edman.
Opal attended Onaga High School. She was a homemaker and housewife. She had lived in Jackson County since 1967 and previously lived in Onaga, Manhattan and Topeka. Opal was a former member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta and had recently been attending Midland PACE. She was also a member of Holton Eagle s Auxiliary #1427.
On May 28, 1951 she married Boyd Eugene Noland in Holton. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2003. She was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Beulah Gatson, Viola Harvey and Golda Dillman and 3 brothers, Donald, Andrew and Elton Edman. Survivors include 3 daughters, Connie Glenn of Topeka, Mary R. Johnson (Patrick) of Rossville and Wilma Chancellor (Lewis) of Holton; 4 sisters, Gladys Schlarman of Topeka, Valerie Brown of Wichita, Florence Ashman of Seneca and Peggy Eisenbarth of Seneca; 1 brother, William Edman of Lawrence; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hoyt. Family will greet friends from 6:00 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Memorials may be given to Midland Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436. Rattlers Split First Day in NBC Nationals

The Rossville Rattlers split two games of pool play Monday at Jerry Rotbertson Field in their quest for the NBC 19-under national championship, falling to the Wichita Sluggers 7-5 before run-ruling the South Central Gassers 11-1 in four innings.
In Game 1, Rossville was up 3-0 before it allowed seven runs in the fifth inning and never recovered. Nick McIntee drove in three, and Luke Bordewick had two hits.
The night cap saw the Rattlers fall down one run before scoring 11 runs in the second, third and fourth innings to end the game. They won with just seven hits, as the Gassers had two errors. McIntee had three hits and four RBIs, and Aaron Gile also drove in four.

Rattlers Defeat Brigade 6-4
Two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday night lifted the Rossville Rattlers past Junction City 6-4 in their final home game at Rossville's Joe Campbell Stadium for this season.
Ethan Beckett and Aaron Gile each had two hits for the Rattlers. After trailing 2-0, Rossville strung together three two-run innings in the second, third and sixth.
The Rattlers will next begin play in the NBC Nationals in Topeka on Monday.

Rattlers NBC Tournament Schedule
The Rossville Rattlers have announced their opening opponents for the National Baseball Congress U19 World Series in Topeka, July 22-25.
The Rattlers will begin their quest for the NBC 19U National Championship next Monday July 22nd at 11:00 am. against the Wichita Sluggers 18's Blue team first and then will play at 4:00 PM against the South Central Gassers.
After two games of pool play on Monday the teams will be seeded by record into bracket play. Bracket play will be double-elimination which means the Rattlers are guaranteed to play at least 4-games in the tournament. Bracket play begins Tuesday and will last for the remainder of the tournament. The winner of the U19 World Series receives an automatic berth into the National Baseball Congress World Series, held in Wichita starting July 26th.
Rossville finished the 2012 tournament as the National Runner-Up after going 5-3, losing to the Davy Jones Cardinals in a close 4-3 game.
Games are at the Bettis Family Sports Complex and are free.

Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 10
The city of Rossville is a first-time participating community in the annual Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 10.
These Community gatherings typically feature cookouts, street carnivals, theme parties, law enforcement and emergency vehicles and other fun or educational goings on. Experts say collaboration is key to combating crime, and fostering such a relationship between neighbors, local law enforcement, and other public safety entities is what the night is all about.
Each neighborhood plans its own events. However. no schedule of events during the night at Rossville has been completed.

The Rossville High School Booster Club, along with the RHS Athletic Department, is organizing a GOLF Tournament!!! It will be September 14! It will be open to anyone that would like to golf with us. Rattlers Edge Brigade in 12 Innings
The game Monday night between Rattlers and Junction City Brigade went into extra innings, but when the last out was over in the 12th, Rossville came home with a a 5-4 victory. With the win, Rossville claimed second place in the 2013 Summer Classic.
The Rattler offense was led by J.D. Garetson who made it on base five times in the game. He also drove in two runners.
Alex King was also hot for the Rattlers going 4 of 6 and scoring three runs. He picked up a double in the sixth and singled in the fourth, tenth, and twelfth innings.
Mark Biesma recorded the win for Rossville Rattlers. He pitched two shutout innings with no strike-outs, but walking one and giving up three hits.
The last home game of the season is Friday night at 7:00 PM. Please come out and show your support for the Rattlers before they head off to the NBC 19U World Series next week in Topeka.
