Dawgs Win At West Franklin
The RHS girls found a course they really liked at the West Franklin Invitational golf tournament, coming in first of the seven teams on Sept. 11.
Makayla Crow placed third with a 51, Emily Woodcock was fifth at 56, Rachel Lord was eighth at 59 and Stacie Woodruff was 10th at 61.
The team standings were:

Cross Country Team Outlook
The cross country team has already begun their season competing with St. Marys as Kaw Valley.
The top returners for the boys are Brady Milligan, (SM, jr). and Clayton Rubio, (RHS, sr) . Top returners for the girls are Sophie Dalmasso, (SM, sr.) and Mattie Swisher, (SM, sr.).
. Dalmasso placed 11th at 3A state meet last year and Swisher took 33rd.
Rubio placed sixth at the Mid-East League meet, while Milligan just missed getting a state berth and was 11th at the league meet.
Curt Brecheison is the head coach and he is assisted by Rick Towers.

First Cross Country Meet
The Rossville and St. Marys cross country teams competed as Kaw Valley in the Mission Valley Invitational 4K run on Sept. 4.
In the girls event, the following girls and their placings are thus:
Laura Gillum (17), Morgan Foster (22). Bronwyn Gianelloni (31) and Alysaa Thompson (32)
In the boys event, the following boys and their placings are thus:

Girls Golf Team Outlook
The Dawgs girls golf team is senior heavy this year. The top returners are Makayla Crow, Sr., Staci Vandruff, Sr., Rachel Lord, Sr., and Emily Woodcock, soph. The Dawgs qualified for state last year finishing ninth in 3A. Three year letter winner Makayla Crow is the team leader being in the top 10 in the regionals l,ast year.
Thatcher Horak Candidate For Athlete Of Week
This weeks Capital Journal candidates for Athlete of the Week included Thatcher Horak, Running Back and Defensive Back for the Rossville Bulldogs.
He had 229 all-purpose yards, 2 rushing TDs and one interception TD in The Dawgs win over Clay Center last Friday.
Shannon Parr At KSU
Shannon Parr is on the KSU Track and Field Roster for 2014-15. The former 3A high jump champion is a sophomore majoring in nutrition and kinesiology.

Dawgs Third In Prarie View Tourney
The RHS volleyball team participated in the Prairie View Tournament finishing in third place. They began by losing to Humbolt 21-25, 25-19, 22-2. They then beat Wellsville 27-25, 18-25, 25-17. They then easily beat Prairie View 25-14, 25-16. Waverly overpowered the Dawgs by a 10-25, 18-25 margin before RHS played Iola for third place. The Dawgs won that match in two games, 25-19, 25-22 to begin their 2014 season at 3-2.

Chell and Bogowith To Marry
Shawnee County has granted a marriage license to Jordon T. Chell, age 22, of Camarillo, Calif. and Monica R. Bogowith, age 22, of Rossville.
Wengers Have A Boy
Jacob and Katy Wenger of Rossville are the proud parents of a new baby boy Sept. 5th at St. Francis Hospital.

Whitney Fox Engaged
The engagement of Whitney Fox to Marshall Wetta is announced by Whitney's parents, Mike and Brenda Fox of Topeka and Kathy Fox of Los Angeles. Marshall is the son of Karen Wetta of Lawrence and the late Maurice Wetta.
Whitney is a graduate of Rossville High School and Columbia College in Chicago. She works for Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif.
Marshall is a graduate of Silver Lake High School and the University of Kansas. He works at Dreamworks Studio in Glendale, Calif.
They are planning a Dec. 20, 2014, wedding at Mater Dei Assumption Church in Topeka.
