Horton Invitational Golf Tournament

    The RHS boys 4 man golf team won the Horton Invitational tournament on April 20th at the Lakeview Country Club, beating out Atchison (245), St. Marys (214), Norton (269) and Maur Hill-Mt. Academy (206) with an excellent (196).
    The Rossville team was composed of Gabe Marney (46 for 6th place),  Paul Steinke (47 for 7th place), Colby Hadsall (50 for 9th place), and Alex Bird (53).
     Each school fielded a 2 man team and 4 man team.  Some of the schools put their best golfers on the two man team whereas RHS put their best golfers on the four man team which helped their standing in the results for the four man teams.

Frederick Metzer Passes Away

    Frederick Metzer, 60, Rossville, passed away April 15, 2015.
    Frederick is survived by wife, Debbie; step-son, David Lipe; siblings, Jim Metzer, Pat Colliver and Marilyn McWhorter.
    Memorial service in Topeka will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Visitation in Coffeyville will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church, 406 Old Willow Street, Coffeyville KS 67337, with parish rosary prayed at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church with burial to follow in the Calvary section of Restlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Holy Name School, 406 Old Willow Street, Coffeyville KS 67337. Condolences may be sent to

Golf Team Wins Tournament

    The Rossville boys golf team came in firs at the Osage City Invitational on April 16.  The team was lead by Paul Steinke who had a 78.  Cody Hadsall was sixth with an 87.  Gabe Marney was 14th with a 94 and Alex Bird was 23rd with a 99.
    The team standings for the 18 hole tournament were:

Baseball Team Beats Bears Twice (Updated)

    The RHS baseball team won two games against St. Marys.  The first was an 10-0 no-hit shutout which was followed by an 11-7 game.  The Dawgs are 6-0 after these two wins.

Game One
    The batting was led by a trio of Tucker Horak, Thatcher Horak and Dawson Hammes who each had two hits.  Christian Roduner only had one hit,  but it was a home run driving in 4 RBIs.   Tucker had two RBIs.
    Tucker Horak pitched all five innings allowing no hits,  no runs and one walk while getting 8 strike-outs.

Game Two
    The hitting was spread out somewhat with Tucker Horak, M. Matumoto, Jack Steckel, Corbin Horak and Christian Roduner each getting two hits.  One of Matumoto's hits was a home run and he drove in five RBIs.  Tucker Horak had a double and single and drove in four RBIs.  
    The pitching was spread among three Dawgs.  Freshman Jarred Morris pitched two innings allowing three hits and two runs..  Sophomore Jacob Bradshaw pitched two innings allowing four hits and five runs.  Senior Ethan Woodcock pitched three innings allowing  one hit and no runs.

    Callie Fischeer of Rossville, now attending Baker University, was third in sports Reporting at the  recent Kansas Collegiate Media Conference Awards

Dawgs Shut Out Bears 13-0

    Amanda Hill pitched a five inning shutout while allowing only one hit in the night cap on April 16.     Amanda had nine strikes-outs while only throwing 6 first pitch strikes.
    Taylor Kirk, Amanda Hill and Heidi Nitsch each had three hits and Heidi also led the RBI column with four.

Lady Dawgs Sock It To Bears

    The Lady Dawgs put on another fine performance against visiting St. Marys on April 16 by opening the double header with an 8-0 shutout.
    Taylor Kirk and Breanna Hill led the batters with three hits each.  Breanna led the team in RBIs with two.  Lauryn Steckel, Heidi Nitsch, and Breanna Hill each had three quality at bats.
    Taylor Kirk was the winning pitcher getting 7 strike-outs and 17 first pitch strikes in her seven innings on the mound.

Boys Track Team Fifth at Royal Valley

    The boys track team came in 5th of 10 teams in the Royal Valley Invitational on April 14.
    Kyle Parr scored most of the team's point finishing well in every event he entered.  Those include the 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles (he was 1st in the preliminaries), 1st in the 300 meter hurdles, 2nd in the high jump, 2nd in the triple jump.
    Fred Schuler finished 4th in the long jump.
    The 4 x 100 meter relay team was 3rd of four teams.  They were 4th of 6 teams in the 4 x 800 relay event.

Girls Track Team 6th At Royal Valley

    The Rossville girls finished 6th out of 10 teams at the Royal Valley Invitational on April 14.
     Some of the better performances were turned in by  Rachel Day, 3rd in 100 M Dash and  Ashley Rietcheck, 4th in 400 M Run,  The girls also did well in the relays.  They were 3rd of 7 teams in the 4 x 100 meter event, 2nd of 6 teams in the 4 x 400 M relay, and 4th of 6 teams in the 4 x 800 M relay.

Golf Team At Southern Lyon C.

    The Rossville boys golf team finished seventh of fourteen teams competing in the Southern Lyon County Golf Tournament at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
     Paul Steinke placed third, right behind Jessee Bittner of Burlington and Connor Mickins of Jeff West.  Jessee and Connor each had a 79 and Paul was one stroke off their pace with an 80.  
    Other Rossville team members were Colby Hadsall (90), Gabe Marney (98) and Alex Bird (103).   St. Marys finished in 11th place and  Silver Lake was 13th.
