Dawgs Win Two Straight

    The RHS Boys basketball team picked up their second straight victory in their game for fifth place at the Valley Falls tournament on Sat.   The Dawgs defeated Atchison County High 52-35.

Craig Carlson Passes Away

Craig Burns Carlson, 80, of Topeka and Rossville Health Care died on January 18, 2018. Craig was born July 17, 1937 in Topeka to John August and Beulah (Brown) Carlson. Craig's parents, his brother John A. Carlson, Jr. (Jac), and former wife Linda preceded him in death.

Craig attended school at Gage, Boswell and Topeka High ('55). He graduated from Washburn University ('61) and was an elementary school teacher until the mid-70's. He then trained in electronics and later taught a night class at Kaw Valley Technical School. He worked for State Office Systems.

In the early 1990's, after recovering from coronary bypass surgery, Craig worked with mentally-challenged adults in Topeka, an employment which became his labor of love. He was also a proud Topekan, proclaiming "I didn't always live here, but my soul did . . .and does."

Craig was briefly married to Arthella Hammar. On August 6, 1978 he married Linda May Pederson. They divorced in 2010.

Survivors include sister-in-law Barbara Carlson as well as nephews Allan and David Carlson of Colorado. 

Services will be Saturday, January 27 at 11am at NextGen Restaurant in Maple Hill, KS. Private inurnment follows at Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to TARC (tarcinc.org). RHS Boys Get Win At Valley Falls

    The Rossville  boys basketball team won their second round gave against Valley Falls in the Valley Falls Tournament on Jan. 19 by a score of 57-49.
    On Sat., the Dawgs will face  the AACHAS boys for fifth place. AACHAS won their game against Oskaloosa 60-53.

Several Days Away From Here

I've been in bed for the past 3 days with the flu or some virus.  So,  I have not been able to post during that time.  So,  doing a little bit of catching up.

Rossville Makes KWCA Top Ten

    In the new KWCA rankings for this week,  Rossville is now in the TOP TEN,  along with three other MEL schools.  Holden Hurla in ranked third in the 152 lb. class and Isaiah Luellen maintains his number one ranking in 160 lb.

The Rossville Boys will play Valley Falls Friday evening in the Valley Falls Basketball Tournament.  The final game will be played on Sat.

Peter Stickel Passes Away

Peter J. Stickel, 77, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Requiem Mass for Mr. Stickel will be at 7:00 A.M. Friday, January 19, 2018, at Assumption Chapel in St. Marys.  A rosary will be recited at 5:20 P.M. Thursday, January 18th at the church.  Interment will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Marys.

Luellen On List For Athlete Of Week

    Isaiah Luellen is still unbeaten  this season and was one of the nominees for Area Athlete Of The Week by the Topeka Capital.  Luellen captured the 160-pound title at the Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Classic, going 5-0 with the closest win a 15-7 decision in the semifinals over Class 4A No. 4 Gavin Cullor of Prairie View. In the finals. Luellen took a 16-8 major decision win over Class 6A No. 3 Jensen McDermott of Gardner-Edgerton.   He has been ranked #1 in 3A wrestling in the 160 pound class the whole season.

    Despite an outstanding 35 point effort by Hulbert,  the St. Marys Bears boys basketball team buried the Dawgs with an avalanche of eleven 3 point makes.
