Taylor Kirk Homers Twice

    Washburn pulled out two single point wins on Thursday at Ft. Hays State.
    In the first game, won by Washburn 4-3, Taylor Kirk (Rossville) had two at bats and one base on balls.
    Taylor homered twice in the second game that Washburn won 7-6.  She hit a solo home run in the 4th inning, and then hit a second solo homer in the top of the 8th inning to break a 6-6 tie.   For the game,  she had 3 hits, 2 RBIs and 2 runs in 4 at bats.

Washburn Gets Two SB Wins

  Washburn U. picked up two softball wins at the U. of Nebraska at Kearney on Wednesday.
  Taylor Kirk (junior from Rossville) had 4 at bats and 2 left on bases in the early 7-4 win.
  Taylor had 3 at bats, 1 run, and 1 RBI in the 13-5 win in game two.

Baseball Team Splits At Santa Fe Trail

The RHS baseball team split their double header with Santa Fe Trail on Thur.  The Dawgs took the first game 8-4,  but lost the second 2-0. 

Softball Team Gets Two More Wins

The RHS softball team picked up two more wins on Thur at Santa Fe Trail with wins of  8-1 and 6-0.  The team is now 4-0 for the season.

Kody Davoren-Student of the Week

    Kody selflessly dedicated his time and helped with League Forensics last week, even though he isn't currently part of the team. Without him, team members would have had to miss competing and work the tournament. He embodied the true sentiment of school spirit in support of his peers!

Taylor Kirk Gets 4 more RBIs.

    Washburn U played four games against Emporia State  over the weekend,  two at Emporia and two in Topeka.  Washburn prevailed in three of the games.
    In game one,   Washburn won 4-0.  Taylor Kirk registered 2 at bats and had 1 RBI on a sacrifice fly to right field.
    In game two,  Washburn easily won 6-1.  In 4 at bats,  Taylor had 1 "left on base"
    In game three, both offenses showed more life as Washburn won 9-4.  Taylor had 3 at bats and had 1 hit, 1 run scored and 3 RBIs on a 3 run homer.
    In game 4,  Emporia's offense improved and they won 9-7.   Taylor had 2 at bats and scored 1 run.  She stole third base and then went home on a throwing error.

2018 Softball Team Outlook

Top returners: Rylee Brecheisen, DH, sr.; Ashley Douglas, 2B, sr.; Kelcie Kippes, P-OF, jr.; Kinlyn Lundin, 1B, so.
Outlook: Bulldawgs finished runner-up at Class 3A state tournament last year, suffering only loss 4-1 to Riverton in state championship game. ... Graduation hit hard, claiming All-State pitcher Amanda Hill and three other first-team All-Mid-East League selections. ... Lundin was first-team All-Class 3A and hit .538 with 9 home runs and 45 RBI as a freshman. ... Brecheisen hit .389 with 2 HRs and 18 RBI. ... Kippes hit .353 with 2 HRs and 14 RBI and went 6-1 with 2.76 ERA and 45 strikeouts.

Softball Team Starts With Wins

The RHS softball team swept their first double header with wins of 13-3 and 19-4 against Jeff West on March 27.

Baseball Team Splits With Perry

The Rossville baseball team split a double header with Perry-Lecompton on Mar. 29, losing the first game 6-3 and winning the second 9-3.

Sarah Heslet Injured In Accident

From the Capital-Journal:
Four people were reported injured in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning just west of Topeka.
Authorities said the crash occurred at 8:55 a.m. in the 1300 block of N.W. West Union Road, about 5 miles west of Topeka and north of Interstate 70.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2005 Dodge Durango SUV lost control and left the roadway. Its driver, Joshua Scott Bush, 32, of St. Marys, was reported injured. He was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital.
Bush was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
Three passengers in the Durango also were reported injured and were taken to Stormont Vail. The patrol identified them as Sarah Elizabeth Heslet, 25, of Rossville; Deshaun Hamuud, 39, of Topeka; and Cherise Daniel Riccomini, 32, of St. Marys.
The patrol said Heslet was wearing a seat belt, while Hamuud and Riccomini were not.
The extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately known.
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Dover Fire Department responded to the scene.
