Rossville Boys At St. Marys

Rossville held the lead throughout most of the game,  with a 7-6 lead after first, 26-20 at the half, and 35-30 at the end of three quarters.  With 2:25 left, RHS led 44-39.  At 1:33, it was Dawgs up 47-43.  But with :50 left,  the Bears took the lead at 48-47. With :20 remaining,  a Dawg basket  tied the game at 49-49.  But the Bears had the last chance and hit a basket with about 1 second (or less)  left to win 51-49.

Lady Dawgs At St. Marys

The Lady Dawgs dominated the court for the first three quarters.  They were up 10-5 after one, 29-16 at the half, and 38-25 after three quarters.  They were still up 44-39 with 48 seconds left.  But in the last 48 seconds the Lady Bears hit two 3 pt shots and one free throw while the Rossville girls only netted on free throw to end up one point short after that disastrous 4th period.

Merrill Hinkle Donates Record Collection

Mr. Merrill Hinkle was gracious enough to donate his entire Polka record collection to the Moravan Lodge #128, Rossville, KS.
Mr. Hinkle, 92 year young, lives in rural Jackson County near Mayetta. He remembers dancing with his wife, Margarite at the Bohemian Hall and across the Midwest.
The records date back to 1975, with many of the records, personally autographed with the polka musician’s name and the location of the dance where Mr. Hinkle purchased them.


Mr. and Mrs. Hinkle will be the guest of honor at the Spring Polka Dance at the Bohemian Hall on April 27, 2019.

Washburn President's List

Washburn University has announced its President's List honorees for the fall 2018 semester. A 4.0 GPA with 12 or more hours are needed.

FBLA District Conference

Rossville FBLA had 19 members compete at the District III Conference on January 21, 2019
at Herington High School. Our chapter placed 3rd overall. We were excited to be able to go
and compete this year since the last two years have been canceled due to weather.

John Andrick Passes Away


    Rossville—John W. Andrick, 86, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
    He was born June 7, 1932 on a farm near Delia the son of Raymond and Griffie Adams Andrick. John attended Delia schools. He served in the United States Army.
    He had lived in the Delia, Dover and Rossville communities all of his life. John was an earthmover tire builder at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka, retiring in July 1994. He was a farmer and stockman. John had worked at the grain elevator in Willard and did carpenter work in and around Rossville. He was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville. His first love was his family, and fishing with the kids with the farm being close behind.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant sisters and sisters, Leorna Darting, Wauenta Darting and Dorothy Redmon; a son, Terry on March 29, 1998 and a grandson, David on June 18, 2012.
    On September 9, 1956 he was united in marriage to Isla R. Parnell in Seneca. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Janice Andrick and Brenda (Rod) Brown all of Rossville; a son, Ron (Alice) Andrick, Topeka; a sister, Genevieve (Don) Jacobson, Rossville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery with Military services by Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

Fredonia Wrestling Tourney

    The Dawgs were loose once again after being sidelined for two weeks since the Bobcat Classic of Jan. 10-12.   
    Rossville had three wrestlers place first (Zach Archer, Alex Archer, Layne Hurla) and Kody Davoren came in 2nd in the Fredonia Tournament on Jan.25-26.  Teams invited per the KWCA wedsite include:  Bluestem, Caney Valley, Central-Burden,  Ell-Saline, Erie, Flint Hills, Fredonia, Humboldt, Parsons, Perry Lecompton, Shawnee Mission South, West Elk, Valley Center JV, Campus, Cherokee-SE.

Helen Simpson Passes Away

Helen Marie Simpson, 90, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

On November 27, 1948, she married Thomas "Shorty" M. Simpson. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sons, John Noel Simpson and Joel Richard Simpson, daughter, Alice Louise Johnson and four siblings.

She is survived by three children, Daniel Simpson, Rossville; Margaret "Peggy" Woehr (Gerald), Overbrook and Eileen Langley (Larry), Topeka; one sister, Donna Hale, Montrose, CO; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Parker-Price Funeral Home, followed by a reception at the Parker-Price Reception Center. Interment will be held at Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate Good Samaritan Fund or Aldersgate Employee Christmas Fund, 7220 SW Asbury Dr., Topeka, KS 66614.
