Louise Colhouer Passes Away

Louise I. Colhouer, 80, of Rossville, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020.
She was born August 10, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh and Martha (Tripp) Colhouer.

Survivors include a guardian, Sheila Alexander of Topeka, KS; three sisters, Mary Ketterman of Kansas, Merna Bishop of Oklahoma, Lynn Colhouer of Colorado and the nursing staff of Rossville Health Care & Rehabilitation. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Margaret Rose Christian.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm., Monday, February 24, 2020 at the Memorial Park Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21 St., Topeka, KS 66604.

The following wrestlers won their class:  Zach Archer (113), Layne Hurla (138), Kody Davoren (220).
Finishing as the class runner-up were:  Cody Hurla (120), Sam Twombly (145), Jacob Carver (285).

In team to team competion,  Rossville lost to Rock Creek 42-33 and then won against Silver Lake 42-36, St. Marys 59-0, Wabaunsee 48-12, and Riley Co, 42-30.

James Pokorney Passes Away


    James H. "Jim" Pokorney James Harvey Pokorney, 84, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020 at Midland Hospice House.
    He was born October 4, 1935 in Concordia, the son of Harry and Ella (Jackson) Pokorney. He grew up in Aurora and Miltonvale, graduating from Miltonvale High School. Jim was a farmer, a telegrapher for Union Pacific Railroad for nine years, and then found his real calling in 1969, building houses. He ran his construction company for 30+ years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lake Lodge #50 AF & AM, and Loyal Chapter #176 OES, all of Silver Lake. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Topeka and the Antique Automobile Club of America, Topeka Region. He loved woodworking, raising flowers, restoring old cars and all cats. His happiest times were with all of the family for celebrations.
    On June 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Streeter in Clay Center. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Sheldon Pokorney, Lawrence and Kevin Pokorney, Rossville; two grandsons, Shawn Pokorney, Overland Park and Shane (Cassie) Pokorney; and one great-grandson, Abel Pokorney. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society or The First Baptist Church of Silver Lake.

Remember When? Paul Steinke Record


   A little over 5 years ago,  a German exchange student decided to try American football and tried kicking for Rossville High.  Paul Steinke performed flawlessly from the first game and broke the existing Kansas high school record of 82 continuous PAT kicks.  He finished the year with over 100 consecutive kicks,  all in one year without a miss.  Oh, and he didn't miss any field goals either.
