Fiedler led the Bulldawgs to a big Mid-East League sweep of Wabaunsee that earned Rossville a tie atop the league standings. Fiedler had six kills in the first match and then came back with 11 kills in the second as the Bulldawgs swept both matches in straight sets.
DR. ROBERT “BOB” STACH
Dr. Stach passed away on October 11, 2020 at 3:30 p.m. at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Silver Lake, Kansas and grew up on a farm north of Rossville, Kansas. He attended Rossville High School. Dr. Stach graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Agriculture and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Stach practiced in the Raymore/Belton area for forty-six years. He was a member of the AVMA, KVMA, MVMA, and KCVM. He was a past Board of Director, Vice President and President of the KCVM.
He was preceded in death by his father Benjamin and his brother Benny.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Stach of the home, his mother Arlis Stach, three sons Ryan (Jessica), Justin and Chris, three step daughters, Kim Taylor, Michelle Perkins (Greg) and Kelly Gebauer (Michael), ten grandchildren Arlis, Eli and Chris, Zach and Josh, Kaylyne and Trenton, Taylor, Keaton and Lauren and one great grandchild Drayden. He is also survived by his sister Sherri Gannon (Vern) and many nieces and nephews.
A burial service at Czech Moravian Cemetery in Rossville, Kansas at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 1500 Meadow Lake Pkwy, Ste 200 Kansas City, Missouri 64114.

Lawrence "Larry" B. Ketter, Jr., age 87, of Topeka, KS, died on October 8, 2020 at Oakley Place in Topeka, KS.
Larry was born on February 18, 1933 to Lawrence and Irene Ketter in Hoyt, KS. He married Beverly J. Dudney of Dover, KS on January 19, 1952. He leaves behind his beloved wife; five daughters, Pamela (Rick) Lovell, Peggy (Randy) Stauffer, Gina (Doug) Rhone, all of Topeka, Dawn (Roger) Kibbee of Harveyville, Kim (Dan) Durkes of Eskridge, KS; one son, Kevin (Kerra) Ketter of Topeka, KS; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters, Mary Lou (George) DeBacker and Florence (Ray) Martin. Surviving is his brother Melvin (Barbara) Ketter.
Larry graduated from Rossville High School. He excelled in football, basketball and track, going to State in track. He missed his graduation ceremony while attending the State Track Meet in Wichita. He was enlisted into the US Army and served from 1953 to 1955. He spent 18 months in Germany. After the Army, he attended Clark's School of Business under the GI Bill. He worked at Santa Fe Railroad in the computer department until he retired in December 1987. He was an Honorary 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, No. 8684 St. Mary's Council; American Legion Post No. 400; Santa Fe Retired Club; a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a long-time member of the Moose Lodge. He loved collecting antiques, especially antique toys.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 13, at 10:00 A.M. at Most Pure of Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th St., Topeka, KS. Inurnment will take place at Dover Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Larry's memory to Heartland Hospice Serving Topeka, 5601 SW Barrington Ct. S. Summary of scoring: Four different Bulldawgs ran for two touchdowns each as Rossville rolled past Pleasant Ridge 69-6. Torrey Horak led the way with 111 yards and two scores, while Kaiden Brown, Kaden Brown and Woodrow Rezac also ran for two scores each as Rossville ran for 441 yards as a team with 10 different Bulldawgs logging carries.

The boys team finished 11th
Rossville finishers were: Sam Twombly 18th, Faith Tres 51st, Wade Twombly 52nd, Hayden Sanders 64th, Bronc Reser 71st.
Girls results
The girls team finished 4th of six teams.
The team members were Julia Streit 4th, Amelia Foster 12th, Reagan Wonnell 15th, Audrie Davis 20th, Keera Lacock 42nd.

Even though Rossville finished last season barely above .500, Bulldawg volleyball coach Tom Colwell felt his team was better than its final 20-18 record.
“I was
proud of how our girls played last year,” he said. “It seemed like we were on
the losing end of a lot of close matches last year. We really had a shot to go
to state.”
A
straight-set loss to eventual Class 2A state champion Wabaunsee in the sub-state
finals ended that dream. But losing only three seniors off the roster, Colwell
felt good about the groundwork the program laid.
With the
addition of a couple impact freshman, Rossville has enjoyed a bit of a rebirth
this season.
Coming off
a 5-1 showing at last week’s Silver Lake Invitational with the lone loss to
Class 3A No. 1 Sabetha, the Bulldawgs followed Tuesday night with a Mid-East
League sweep of Wabaunsee. The big stretch has Rossville sitting 5-1 and tied
atop the league standings with Rock Creek and 21-5 overall, already surpassing
last year’s win total.
“We had
high expectations,” Colwell said. “We knew where we stood talent-wise and the
opportunities that we had. We’ve capitalized on that big-time this year.”
Rossville
had to replace its leading hitter from a year ago, departed all-leaguer Taylor
Morelli, who had a team-high 367 kills. But almost all the other key pieces
returned, including senior hitter Jaycee Fiedler and senior setter Destiny
Bergstresser.
Both have
performed to expectations this year with Fiedler pounding out 142 kills and
Bergstresser recording 503 assists and 33 aces.
The
addition of freshmen Kinsey Perine and Alexis Bittner, however, has helped
spark this year’s success. Perine leads the team with 182 kills while Bittner is
second with 146. Bittner also leads the team in aces with 35 and Perine is tops
in blocks with 28.
“Those
older girls really accepted them and we’ve really hit the ground running from
the start this year,” Colwell said. “There’s not one leader on the court, it
seems like we have six of them, which is great to have. We’ve got a lot of
options and there are no selfish players out there. Everybody wants to win as a
team and I honestly can’t ask for a better group.”
Rossville
started the season a bit slow, dropping two of its first four matches and sat
just 9-3 after its home tournament in mid-September. But since, the Bulldawgs
have gotten on a bit of a roll, punctuated by their performance over the past
week.
While
Rossville lost to No. 1 Sabetha in straight sets at the Silver Lake
Invitational, the Bulldawgs also beat both Silver Lake and defending Class 3A
champion Royal Valley.
The
confidence gained from that showing, as well as the sweep of Wabaunsee on
Tuesday, could go a long way toward the goal of reaching the Class 3A state
tournament.
There
isn’t a tougher sub-state in Class 3A than the one Rossville finds itself in.
Joining the Bulldawgs are No. 1 Sabetha, No. 2 Royal Valley and No. 10 Nemaha
Central, as well as an improved Hiawatha team and league rivals Silver Lake,
Riley County and St. Marys — the Bears handing Rossville its only league loss
and the sub-state host.
“We’ve
just been rolling with it and enjoying it also,” Colwell said. “There were just
a lot of solid teams at that tournament and we haven’t focused so much on
winning or losing, just giving our best effort out on the court that we can. I
feel like that was a good weekend to scout out some teams and we came away with
five wins. The girls believe in themselves and each other.

Roger Leland Zlatnik passed away on September 29, 2020. He was born February 12, 1929 to Joseph and Cecil Zlatnik.
His wife of 64 years, Joann, survives as do sons: Bret Zlatnik (St. Louis, MO) and Craig Zlatnik, wife Barbara (Houston, TX); son Aaron Zlatnik is deceased. There are six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Roger grew up in Delia, Kansas and graduated from Washburn University. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Roger spent most of his career in furniture sales for Ed Marling’s and Lewis Furniture Stores. Prior to retirement, he served as a guide and then Assistant Sargant of Arms for the Kansas Senate at the Kansas State Capitol.
Survived by one brother, Laverne Zlatnik and sisters, Rosella Hoglund and Mary Alice Huntsman. Memorial Service will be held October 9 at 1:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church
