KWU Women Lose 48-45 To Bethel

 Caila Hill had 10 points of 3 of 7 shooting and 4 of 4 at the free throw line.  She also had 6 rebounds and 1 assist.

Amanda Hill had 8 points on 3 of 12 shooting, including 2 of 8 on 3 pointers,  She had 7  rebounds, 2 blocks and 3 assists.

KWU Women Get Win At Friends U.

The Kansas Wesleyan Womens basketball team picked up a 64-43 win over the Friends University Falcons on Wed. night in Wichita.

RHS grad Amanda Hill led  the KWU Coyotes scoring with 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting including 3 of 6  three pointers.  She also had 5 rebounds and 1 assist.
Caila Hill had 6 points on 3 of 6 shooting and also 4 rebounds, 1 block, and 2 assists.

KWU Women's BB Schedule Changes

   The KWU women's basketball team will play at Friend's University in Wichita on Feb. 17 and defend their home court against Bethal on Feb. 19

     In this weeks Kansas Wrestling Association 321A Rankings,  the only Bulldawg wrestlers making the list were Layne Hurla, at number 3 in the 145 lb class and Sam Twombly at number 6 in the 152 lb. class.

Kendra Hurla Up For Athlete Of Week

    Rossville High freshman Kendra Hurla was one of ten area athletes nominated by the Capital=Journal for Athlete of the Week.
    Hurla captured the 120-pound title at Saturday’s Girls Division II regional tournament, going 3-0 on the day to improve to 18-1 on the season. Hurla avenged her only loss of the season with a pin of Silver Lake’s Grace Fitzgerald with one second left in the first period of the title match.

Phyllis Marney Passes Away

  Rossville—Phyllis I. Marney, 91, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021, at the Rossville Healthcare and Rehab Center.

     She was born June 17, 1929, in Kansas City, MO., the daughter of Samuel and Ethel Smith.

     She was married to Bob Marney on January 31, 1950; they divorced.

     Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, HS graduate Fred Elevier, her parents; siblings, Albert, Herald, Lloyd, Tom, Wanda, Vera, LoElla, Betty, and Neva

     Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Diane Elevier, Silver Lake; her grandson, Aaron Elevier, Silver Lake; a great-granddaughter, Izabella Quinn, Topeka; several nieces and nephews.

     Phyllis chose cremation.  Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys, at a later date.  Piper Funeral Home, St. Marys is assisting the family. To leave online condolences, go to www.piperfuneralhome.com

Caila And Amanda Hill In Big KWU Win

     Kansas Wesleyan Woman's basketball team defeated York College of Nebraska 81-37 on Sat.

     Amanda Hill was high scorer with 23 points on 8 of 12 shooting, which includes 6 of 10 three point shots.   She also had 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

    Caila Hill scored 4 points on 2 of 4 shooting.  She added 5 rebounds and 3 assists.


Golden Giants Adding Fan Features

    The  Golden Giants have some major upgrades in store for fans in their move back to Rossville.

   TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – A local baseball club is finding a new home and a new app Wednesday after going under new ownership.
    The Topeka Golden Giants will move their home games to Joe Campbell Stadium in Rossville, according to a spokesperson. They previously played at Jerry Robertson Field near Lake Shawnee. The team will retain Head Coach Jacob Kirmer for a second season, and Holton native Justin Rieschick joining as an assistant.
    “Our new branding, along with our partnership with the Rossville community, will allow baseball fans in Topeka to enjoy a true minor league baseball experience,” said new owner J.R. Bond. “We are very excited for the future of fans first baseball in the Topeka area.”
    The move to Joe Campbell Stadium means more features for fans in attendance, including a beer garden, party deck and promotional nights like an opening night carnival on June 4. A spokesperson also said fans can catch games via streaming with a new Golden Giant TV app, which is in development for Amazon, Android, Roku and Apple TV.
