Mary Ann Scott Passes Away

 Mary Ann Scott, 102, of St. Marys, died on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at the St. Marys Manor.

Mary was born on August 20, 1923 in Sharpsburg, PA the daughter of Santo and Josephine (Biafore) Coniglio.

She met Francis Scott in 1954 in Pittsburgh and they were married on June 4, 1955; he preceded her in death in 2019. Together they had seven children, Bernadette, Therese Ann, Mary Frances, Kathleen (deceased), Elizabeth, Fr. Thomas Scott and Francis Jr.

Mary and Francis moved to St. Mary's, after Francis’ retirement, in 1995 and were members of The Immaculata parish in St. Marys for many years.

Mary is survived by her six children, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, her parents, her eight brothers and sisters, her daughter, Kathleen, and her grandson, Christian.

Mary will lie in state at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys from 2:00-4:00 PM on Thursday, October 30. A rosary will be prayed for Mary at 5:20 PM, also on Thursday, at The Immaculata, 701 N. 2nd St. in St. Marys.

A requiem Mass will be offered at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 31, also at the Immaculata with burial following in Our Lady of Peace cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the St. Marys Manor Activity Fund and may be sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, KS 66536.


George Brown Passes Away


George N. Brown, 89, of Lake Wabaunsee, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

George N. Brown was born August 6, 1936, in Holton, KS, to Oscar George and Isabel Hurrel Brown. His father died before he was born. His mother married Garland “Butch” Hune in 1944. George graduated from Circleville High School in 1954. He attended Kansas University, where he played frosh basketball, participating in the very first game at Allen Fieldhouse. He later transferred to and graduated from Baker University in 1958. He received his MS in School Administration from K-State in 1970. George’s claim-to-fame during his time on the Kansas basketball team was that he was tasked with guarding Wilt Chamberlain during practices. George must have done a great job because Wilt went on to have a pretty successful career!

He married Barbara Morris in August, 1957; they were divorced in 1985. He married Janice Horak in 1988.

Mr. Brown was a teacher and coach at Wetmore, Holton, and Marysville, and served five years as Principal of Chaparral High School. He became Superintendent of Schools of Kaw Valley USD 321 (St. Marys, Rossville, Emmett, Delia) in 1981 and retired in 1998. He then served a two-year interim as Superintendent at Norton and two years at West Solomon Valley. He served a total of 44 years in education.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Wilson Korte. He is survived by his wife, Janice, two sons, Luke (Kerri Lynne) and Douglas (Lisa), a daughter, Georgia Flood (Scott), two stepsons, Terry Horak (Wendi) and Brian Horak (Lisa), and a step-daughter, Kelly Donovan (Garrett). He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family will recite rosary at 6:30 PM on Monday, October 27 in the parish hall at Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma and receive visitors from 7:00- 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for George at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 28, also at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Cremation will take place following the mass and a private burial in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery will follow at a later date.

Memorial contributions in George’s memory may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church and may be sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, KS 66536.

Jimmy Pace Passes Away

 Jimmy L. Pace, 77, of St. Marys died on Monday, October 20th, 2025 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka KS. 


Jimmy was born September 9th, 1948, in Hominy, Oklahoma, the son of George Jr. Pace and Billie Jean (Edwards) Pace. Jim lived most of his life in the St. Marys area and graduated from St. Marys High School. He married Pamela Wyker on July 6th, 1969.

He worked for Seymour Foods and Farmers Union COOP, and later became an entrepreneur, owning Pace Trailer Court, farms, rentals, SunSet Auto Sales, Topeka Auto Plaza and J&P Enterprises, Inc. He built a total of 67 homes in St. Marys, Wamego, Delia and Manhattan.

Jimmy is survived in death by his wife Pamela and two sons: David Pace (Tina) of Topeka and Eric Pace of St. Marys, a brother, Fred Pace of Raytown, MO, three nephews and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Jr. Pace and Billie Jean (Edwards) Pace, as well as his son Craig Pace.

 A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday, October 24 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 25 at Valley View Cemetery in St. Marys.

Memorial contributions in Jimmy's memory may be made to the St. Marys High School Scholarship General Fund

ROSSVILLE DAWGS AT OLPE EAGLES 10/17/25

Dawgs win a hard fought 36-22 struggle, after a 14-14 tie at halftime.  There were numerous penalties, mostly large ones against the Dawgs.  .

 Rossville Varsity Football Team defeated Cair Paravile 49-14 at the Washburn U. Stadium Oct 10, 2025.  The Dawgs led 34-6 at the half and added 14 more in the "running clock" second half,
