Darrell Carr Passes Away

    Darrell E. Carr Darrell E. Carr, 88, of Topeka, died September 18, 2016 at McCRite Plaza.
    He was born in Butler County, Kansas on January 18, 1928, the son of William and Mary (Woodburn) Carr. Darrell married Mary L. Burns in Mayetta, Kansas on September 1, 1956, she survives. Darrell was in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning from the Army he graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Education. He worked in credit collection for the ARMCO Steel Corporation in Topeka until 1973 and also in Middletown, Ohio from 1973 to 1990. Darrell previously taught and coached at Circleville. After retirement he worked as a Substitute Teacher for Seaman District from 1990 to 2008. He loved watching sports, square dancing, vegetable gardening, watching his grandchildren and spending time with his family. Darrell was a member of the American Legion and St. Matthew Catholic Church.
    He is survived by his children, Bradley Brad (Mattie) Carr, Topeka, William Bill (Greda) Carr, Aberdeen, South Dakota, Julie (Michael) Dimeo, Issaquah, Washington, Catherine (Richard) Wieder, Chesterfield, Missouri, three grandchildren, Sarah Wieder, Denver, Colorado, Rob Wieder, Tampa, Florida, Dan Wieder, Chesterfield, Missouri, one great grandson Troy Chalcraft, Washington. Darrell was preceded in death by his six siblings Dale, Virginia, Polly, Paul, Jack and Elton and also a grandson Ben Dimeo.
    Darrell will lie in state after 2:00 pm on Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 8:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Rossville Cemetery in Rossville, Kansas where graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or to the Rose Hill United Methodist Church. and sent in his memory to the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603. Lawrence Triangular Volleyball

The RHS volleyball team competed in the Lawrence Triangular.  They lost to Washburn Rural 18-25 and 14-25.    Against Lawrence,  the Lady Dogs were 14-25 and 15-25 bringing their overall record to 3=4.

West Franklin Inv. Girl's Golf

    The RHS girls golf team won the West Franklin Invitational via the tie-breaker after both Rossville and Council Grove finished with a 229.   The RHS girls placed four in the top 12.  They were Emily Woodcock (55) fourth, Danielle Mason (55) sixth, Jesse Sowers (57) seventh, and Kathleen Schuler (62) twelfth.
