Volleyball At Valley Falls

    The RHS volleyball team competed in the Valley Falls Double Dual on Sept 12.
     They lost  their first match to Valley Falls 25-21, 23-25, 9-25.
     They won their match against McLouth in two straight games 25-15, 25-14.
     The team has a 6-3 record for the season thus far.

Linda (Rezac) (58) Dayton Passes Away

    Dr. Linda Leigh (Rezac) Dayton, of Cypress, TX, died August 31, 2017. She was 77 years old.
Linda is survived by her husband, John Dayton of Cypress, TX; her children, Ellen and Michael Thompson of Cypress, TX, and James and Diana Dayton of Lenexa, KS; five grandchildren; and her sister and brother in-law, Virginia and David Foster of Rossville, KS.
    Linda was born June 5, 1940, in Lawrence, KS, to James and Evelyn Rezac. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1958 and from Emporia State University in 1961. Linda taught at Highland Park High School in Topeka, KS, from 1961 to 1963 and Wenatchee (WA) High School in 1964. Linda earned an MS in counseling from Emporia State University in 1965.
    Linda married John W. Dayton in 1965. Linda was a counselor at Highland Park High School from 1965-1969. In 1970, Linda and John moved to Overland Park, KS. Linda worked at Johnson County Community College for 25 years, including 17 years as JCCC’s dean of student services. Linda earned an Ed.D in higher education administration from the University of Kansas in 1983.  Linda finished her career at Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) from 1995-2006, serving as a counselor, associate vice president, vice president of finance and operations, and executive vice president.
    Linda was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her hard work, compassion, and drive.
    Visitation will be at 10 am, September 23, at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66207, with a memorial service following at 11 am. A graveside service is scheduled at 3 pm at Rossville Cemetery, Rossville, KS 66533. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Linda’s life.

Wamego Cross Country Invitational

    The Rossville Cross Country team competed at the Wamego Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Sept 8.
    On the boys side, with 163 JV competitors, Zach Archer was 45th in 22:28, Ben Price 50th in 22:35, Justin Jordan 118th in 25:28, and Marvin Cummings 140th in 26:47.
    For the girls, out of 101 JV competitors, Meagan Huston led the way with a 5th place finish in 24:57, Emma Streit was 34th in 26:51, Allison Perry 82nd in 32:08, and Kitty Jordan 85th in 32:32.

Madison Brown--Student Of Week

    Madison Brown has been selected as Student  of the Week.   After school, Madison volunteered to help the custodians in the lunchroom. She has her pride in her school and took the initiative to make a difference. Madison cares about the appearance of the school and that it reflects on all the students and staff. 

Robert George Dies In Accident

    Robert George,  who grew up in Dover,  was killed in a motorcyle accident on Sept. 4.  His obituary can be read at:

West Franklin Inv. Golf

   The RHS golf team participated in the West Franklin Invitational on Sept. 5 at Lamont Hill Golf Course.   The team was composed of girls that normally do not play in the tournaments.  Leah Hudson was the top performer with a 62 that was good for 5th place individually.
