Dawgs Face 1A Champ Centrailia

From the Capital-Journal:
The 2019 football season couldn’t have gone much better for Centralia
The Panthers went 12-1, rolled to another Twin Valley League title and captured the program’s fourth state championship in the last 10 years with an 18-14 win over Smith Center in the Class 1A state title game.
Only one thing kept it from being a perfect season. A 28-8 loss to Rossville in the season opener.
Indeed, while the season-opening loss to Rossville might have been the only blemish on the Panthers’ record a year ago, it also might have been a catalyst for their run to another championship. coach Glatczak and his staff learned plenty about their team in that loss and the changes they made coming out, not to mention the competition they saw from the Bulldawgs, paid big dividends the rest of the season.
Centralia gets a shot at a little payback Friday night when Rossville comes to town to open the 2020 season. Both teams begin the season with serious title aspirations — Centralia is ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, while Rossville is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A.
Rossville finished last season 7-3, falling in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs 29-21 in overtime to eventual champion Nemaha Central. The Bulldawgs return most of the key figures off last year’s squad, including their entire cast of skill players, and are looking to win their first state championship since claiming three straight Class 3A crowns from 2014-16.

MEL Covid-19 Rules For Fall Sports

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Mid-East League has implemented expectations and procedures for fans and schools at fall sports competitions, including mask and social distancing requirements.
The league says senior nights will “most likely” take place early in the year.
Teams must do temperature checks before they leave for an away competition, and host schools must clean locker rooms before teams arrive. Teams must also modify post-game handshakes.
Fans at cross country and football competitions must wear masks in shared common spaces where social distancing can’t be practiced, such as concession areas, restrooms, start and finish lines, and main entries,
For indoor events, fans will have their temperature taken before they enter and masks must be worn at all times.
Fans must also practice social distancing in the stands. There is currently no maximum limit to the number of fans allowed at competitions in place.
“Each school may add additional restrictions for their facilities based on local health department mandates,” the league wrote. “To ensure the safety of student athletes and in an attempt to continue competition, the league or individual school may determine to limit or restrict fan attendance at any time.”
Concessions will be limited to pre-packaged food and bottled drinks.
To help reach more fans, the league also encourages schools to livestream events as much as possible.

Kansas 2A Football for 2020

From CatchItKansas
Class 2A Preseason Standings:
1. Rossville
2. Hoisington
3. Silver Lake
4. Nemaha Central
5. Pittsburg Colgan
6. Norton
7. Cimarron
8. Hillsboro
9. Garden Plain
10. Osage City
Notes: On paper, Rossville is the key clear cut No. 1 in what is expected to be likely the most wide-open class. Rossville was top-8 in 2A in scoring offense and defense and returns virtually its entire team. Last year, Nemaha Central and Norton both were surprise entrants into the title game. Hoisington was the preseason No. 1 team last season and reached the state semifinals for the second consecutive fall. The Cardinals have to replace Top 11 all classes Wyatt Pedigo (5,000-plus career rushing yards), but Hoisington has a great QB in Mason Haxton and plenty of backfield weapons, including Cade Mason and Holt Hanzlick. Pedigo’s biggest loss might come on defense, though Joshua Ball (71 tackles, team-high 12 TFLs) returns. Colgan bumps up from 1A.
