George was born on December 29, 1925, in Elmont, Kansas just
north of Topeka, the oldest son of Charles and Elizabeth Nissen Love.
George’s family moved to Wetmore when he was four years old; he
attended school at Wetmore and graduated from the 8th grade. As a young man he helped
his father on the farm. He joined the U.S. Army on September 21, 1944, he
stationed in Philippians, and was in the Asiatic Pacific campaign, earning a
bronze star. He was discharge on November 29, 1946 from Fort Beale, in
California at the rank of PFC. George was employed by E and R Construction in
Wetmore for 22 years; he later worked for Wetmore School District as a janitor,
until retirement.
On July 28, 1973, he married Mary Wanda Peery Stubbs, at the Nemaha County
Court House in Seneca. The couple resided in Rossville; they were married for
45 years before her death on March 2, 2019.
George loved to play the spoons, the harmonica and karaoke. He
enjoyed dancing, and did so whenever he got the chance. He often could be found
visiting with friends at the local legion in Rossville or wherever he could
strike up a conversation. He was gifted at repairing small engines.
He belonged to the Levick-Barrett Post 282 of the Wetmore
American Legion and the V.F.W., where he was a life time member.
Besides his wife, Wanda, he was preceded in death by his
parents, Chuck on April 21, 1970 and Elizabeth “Lizzy,” on August 11, 1973; his
brother, Harold “Joe” Love on
October 20, 2009; and his sister, Blanche Eisenbarth on January 10, 2014.
He is survived by Anita Lamberson of Rossville; four
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Congratulations to Elizabeth Schaefer for receiving the 1st Chair Flute placement in the Northeast Kansas Music Educators Association District 1-4A Gold Honor Band for the 2nd year in a row! She had to submit a video-taped audition this year and will now have the opportunity to submit another audition for the All-State Honor Band in January!
The 2A Title game between Rossville and Hoisington on Nov. 28 has been sold out. Each school was allotted 500 tickets.
According to KSHSAA, the game will be played in Salina USD 305′s football stadium at 650 E Crawford St, Salina, KS 67401.
KSHSAA said those who missed tickets can still watch the football game live on the NFHS Network at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28.
ROSSVILLE, Kan. (KSNT) – Fire investigators determined a controlled burn wasn’t completely put out and reignited two days later, causing the grassfire near Rossville.
The fire started in Shawnee County but the wind carried it north to Jackson County. Rossville Fire Captain Travis Thompson said the fire burned more than 3,000 acres across both counties. He said this is a reminder to make sure all fires are completely put out when you leave.
“I think the lesson is, if you’re going to do a controlled burn, you want to make sure that before you leave it, that it’s all the way out, that’s the most important thing,” said Thompson.
He said a garage and a couple abandoned buildings were burned in the fire.
KWU lost to Bethany College 55-44 on Tue, Nov. 24, after getting off to a slow start and a good second half wasn't enough to close the gap,
Amanda Hill (SR/Rossville, Kan.) and Kelcey Hinz (JR/Whitewater, Kan.) combined for 33 of the Coyotes' 44 points, each finishing with a double-double – Hill 17 points (6/16) and 11 rebounds, and Hinz 16 points (7/18) and 15 rebounds. Caila Hill added 4 points on 2/4 shooting.

The Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes are scheduled to play two crucial Kansas Conference games this week, both inside Mabee Arena. They play archrival Bethany at 6 p.m. Tuesday, then take on Bethel at 6 p.m. Saturday. Fans will not be admitted to either game. Sisters Amanda and Caila Hill both play for the Coyotes with Amanda leading the team in scoring.

No fans will not be allowed at either game. This is consistent with Kansas Wesleyan's fan attendance and ticketing policy, which was updated, Monday November 23 in response to an update of Saline County's COVID-19 health orders, limiting gatherings in indoor places.
