McCullough and McKenzie Receive Awards

Tayler McCullough and Nick McKenzie, of Rossville, received the Outstanding Lifeguard award at the Kansas Recreation and Park Association’s annual meeting last month in Manhattan. McCullough and McKenzie were recognized for their dedication and perseverance to the Rossville swimming pool, which was built in 2007 as a result of a community effort begun by the duo when they were in grade school. After McCullough and McKenzie started a recycling campaign to raise money for a pool, the community formed a task force (which included the instigators) in 2003, and the $400,000 it raised plus bond money from the city was used to build the pool. Later, when McCullough and McKenzie were old enough, they were hired as lifeguards by Shawnee County Parks and Recreation.
