Rattlers Add 3 Players From U. of Nebraska

The Rossville Rattlers are pleased to announce the signing of three players from the University of Nebraska-Omaha baseball team. Mavericks Head Coach Bob Herold will send some of his young promising Division-I talent to Rossville this summer.

Collin Leif, C, (Bemidji, MN): Collin lettered four years for Bemidji High School. Leif was a class 3A all-state and all-section pick as a senior, when he batted .420 with 29 RBI. He was named to the 3A state all-tournament team and a Lions Northern All-Star Tournament participant. Last season he helped Bemidji win a section championship and went on to the 3A state championship game at Target Field. As a junior, he was honored on the all-section team and was an all-state honorable mention selection. He hit .450 with 30 RBI and helped Bemidji to a state tournament appearance.
Cole Gruber, OF, (Papillion, NE): Gruber lettered three years for Papillion-LaVista High School. He was a three-time all-state honorable mention (2009-11). As a senior, led the state with a .497 batting average. In his junior season, he posted the fourth-best batting average in the state at .492. He's also a member of the National Honor Society and the honor roll.
Brett Sasse, RHP, (Nebraska City, NE): Attended Lourdes Central Catholic but played baseball for Nebraska City High School's program and lettered four years. He was a first-team all-state selection as a senior. Sasse was a two-time first-team all-conference pick and as a senior, he led the state in the regular season with 85 strikeouts and went 3-4 on the mound with a 1.24 ERA. In his junior season, he went 1-4 with a 2.34 ERA, finishing third in Class B for strikeouts. He helped Nebraska City to back-to-back state tournament appearances. Brett went 4-1 on the mound as a sophomore and posted a win at the state tournament.
The addition of these three players bring the Rattlers total of Division-I athletes to eight for the 2013 season (5 Kansas State, 3 Nebraska-Omaha). We are excited to welcome in these athletes and thank Coach Herold for building a new relationship that will last for years to come.
