Richard Gleason Passes Away

    DOVER Richard Harold Gleason, 92, passed away Friday, January 13, 2017 at a Topeka hospital.
    He was born April 9, 1924 near Eskridge, the son of Richard G. and Ruth T. Eastman Gleason. Harold served in the United States Army during WWII. Harold worked in the Santa Fe Railroad shops in Topeka for 34 years. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
    On August 12, 1947 he was united in marriage to Phyllis N. Thomas at St. Marys. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2012. He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry, on April 23, 2003; great-grandson Levi Bishop; his daughter-in-law Janette Gleason; brothers Maurice and Kenneth Gleason. Survivors include his son, Richard Gleason, Dover; his daughter, Sharon (Glen) Bishop, Rossville; a brother, Galen Gleason; a sister Ruby Thornwall; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
    Military graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Keene Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Fire Department and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
