A hearty congratulations to Elizabeth Schaefer (A Junior at Rossville Jr/Sr High School) who, despite the many setbacks of auditioning for the All-State Band during a pandemic, has been selected as the 1st Chair Flute Player for the 1-4A Kansas All-State Honor Band.
Elizabeth has been preparing the audition music since it was announced last May, 2020. She auditioned (virtually) in November, 2020, and was selected as the 1st Chair Flute for the KMEA (Kansas Music Educators Association) Northeast District Honor Band. With her selection to District, that qualified her to audition for All-State. We completed her recording for All-State over Christmas Break and the online adjudicating was completed on Sunday, January 17th.
Because of the pandemic, the honor band will be held virtually this year, with rehearsals, sectionals, and other sessions taking place over zoom in late January and early February. She will prepare the honor band music primarily on her own beforehand, record her part separately, and then the honor band staff will combine those individual parts for a collaborative performance to be delivered as a "virtual concert" on Saturday, February 27th, 2021 at 7:00 PM.

Due to copyright restrictions, all concerts will be broadcast one time on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Broadcast links will be provided to directors of selected students. Concerts will not be available for repeat performance online. Performance recordings and souvenirs will be made available for online ordering.
